My training includes various modes of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), focus in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), decades of familiarly with mindfulness practices, and multiple certifications in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with specializations in the intensive treatment of adults, adolescents, and children.
Perhaps this is the first time you have searched for a therapist and are simply not sure where to start; or perhaps you have met with therapists in the past yet still find yourself wrestling with such stubborn difficulties as depression, anxiety, relationship conflicts, or self-sabotaging behavior. No matter your history with psychotherapy, current predicament, age, race, or gender, you can feel confident that I will welcome you into treatment with basic compassion, professional competence, and a deep sensitivity to the specific circumstances motivating you to seek help at this time.

Hi my name is Jessica and I would like to welcome you to the start of your new journey to finding the best you. In life we go through many different trials, tribulations, and experiences that shape us to be who we are today. Are there bumps in the road? Of course there are. But can we overcome them? Of course we can, and it starts today

As an experienced clinician with 20 years in the field, my treatment approach includes using a blend of cognitive behavioral treatment, dialectical behavioral therapy, strength-based therapy, and the use of motivation/empowerment.
Welcome to your mental health journey. For many, the idea of therapy can be filled with mystery. When someone thinks of therapy, they might imagine an old chaise lounge, conversations focused on childhood, or being told what to do. Sometimes, therapy can involve a chaise lounge and may also be about childhood but therapists rarely answer the question "What should I do?". As your therapist, I provide a safe space and help you develop the effective coping tools that you need to find your path and take action that matches your values to rediscover yourself.

Therapy can feel like an elusive concept, one that supposedly provides a solution for emotional struggles if you do it the “right way.” I believe in an individualized approach to therapy, because there is no “right way”; there is only the way that makes the most sense for you. In this regard, I may use different modalities, but more importantly I will use what I learn about you to help us collaborate effectively on your mental health. I have experience working with a diverse range of people, including the LGBTQ+ community, current and former sex workers, and both adolescents and adults.

My primary focus of treatment is trauma recovery, depression, and anxiety. Many people have chronic low self-esteem stemming from early childhood messages received from adults and others in their lives. The coping skills used at that time may have been adaptive, but in the present, they are no longer helpful. If you are depressed, anxious, and feel alone, don't know what to do, or if you suffer from a difficult past, I can help. You're not alone. I engage in strengths-based, solution-focused person-centered work and use a variety of traditional mental health modalities.

Racquel utilizes several skills, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, and Psychodynamic Therapeutic approaches in assisting clients with overcoming trauma.
As individuals navigating the human experience, facing difficulties and challenges in life is not uncommon. Far too often, we hold ourselves to the highest standards in careers, relationships, and overall self-worth resulting in the pressure becoming overbearing and difficult to navigate. Over time our expectations and aspirations come at the expense of our mental well-being and ability to cope. Therapy is a joint venture between the client and myself in which our knowledge and skills are combined to create solutions. A therapeutic relationship should be built through trust, empathy, and authenticity to promote positive outcomes.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
