When providing therapy, I use an integrative approach to treatment, including approaches from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT), Mindfulness and Somatic experiencing.
From the outside it looks like things are going well, but you know that isn’t the whole story. Inside you're struggling with worry and feelings of unease and insecurity. Maybe you feel sad or on edge, and can’t focus on the things you love. Perhaps it feels like the world is caving in on you as others look on. These are just a few symptoms that are familiar to clients who seek therapy with me. Although I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients, I specialize in working with adults who have experienced traumatic events such as childhood dysfunction, abuse, violence, religious trauma and other severely distessing events.

Everyday life can be in the way of focusing on healing from our past, management of stress/mental health issues and making changes for our future. Setting aside time for yourself is important! I specialize in treating post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, grief, and addiction by utilizing evidence-based practices including EMDR, DBT, Schema Work, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing.
We may experience things in our lives that feel like they change who we are and our view of the world. As a result, we may feel loneliness, distrust, anger, sadness, numbness, shame, and guilt. We may not allow ourselves to experience the wide range of human emotions and limit our connection with others as a way to protect ourselves. I believe that people are resilient, able to heal from trauma, and can reconnect with their authentic, genuine selves.

I am an EMDR practitioner that utilizes Schema therapy, IFS and DBT to address the unique challenges of each client.
Each client presents with their own unique set of needs and challenges relative to the environments they were raised in. What many identify as disorders or dysfunction I view as necessary adaptations to environmental stressors. Within the context of that thinking people need to be able to function and manage their lives in a way that provides space for healing, happiness and love. I believe that what people desire most is to be seen, to live autonomously with self determination, and to feel connected to something greater than themselves, be it a cause, a community, an organization or God.

Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
