I am eager to help individuals who feel stuck and emotionally overwhelmed. I want to help people see that there is hope through even the most hopeless of times. I have felt called to help people out of the dark corners of life so they can start living renewed lives.

Each day we have a chance to strive to live a life that is authentic and genuine, a life that represents and reflects who we are as people. Oftentimes, that authentic and genuine person becomes derailed and buried beneath the weight of life stressors. These stressors present in the form of anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal conflicts, relationship conflicts, grief/loss, loss of meaning/purpose, and beyond. Sometimes the assistance of a helping hand, an open ear, and an attuned mind is all that's needed to help us return to living as our authentic selves.

I feel honored and privileged to have been of assistance to so many good people, who have just needed some objective guidance.
Currently, I only have Monday morning appointments available. Have you been thinking about counseling for awhile? It's not uncommon for people to consider getting help for months before they make the first call. But remember, counseling is just people talking to each other. My goal is to help you to feel comfortable. I strive to create a non-judgmental atmosphere where people can develop the insights and skills they need to grow. My approach to counseling is down to earth and practical. I use a solution-focused approach that builds on the strengths already present in my clients.

I will listen to your unique story in a manner that is supportive and non judgmental.
I believe that all people seeking therapy are truly unique, yet we all have the same basic needs for acceptance, compassion, happiness, and hu man connection. For some, our early childhood experiences prevent us from getting these needs met as adults. For others, it is simply the stresses and de mands of everyday life that contribute to our feeling anxious, depressed or having chronic pain symptoms. Sometimes we experience losses (big or small) which are hard to process and recover from. Often it is a combination of factors that we cannot clearly identify. Therapy is the path toward getting your needs met.

My approach blends cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and hu manistic theories of psychotherapy.
It is a privilege to be able to help people work through the challenges we all face. It's a privilege that I don't take lightly. For my clients, I am here to be more than just a listening ear. I want to ask the tough questions and help clients create meaningful, long lasting changes in their lives, to truly unlock their potential. I am seeking adult and adolescent clients who want a thorough and challenging therapy experience. Our relationships, our thinking, our behaviors (and how they all work together) are the focus of my work.

Therapy is most meaningful when you have a clear understanding of the work being done, and can see how a specific approach aligns with your values and goals. Since there are no one-size-fits-all solutions, we'll try and track approaches tailored to your individual needs, keep the ones that help, and avoid painful repetition of strategies that don't help. Together, we will aim to build a process that works, and move at a mutually agreed upon pace and direction toward clarity, understanding, and change.

Change is a phenomenon that we all face. We will repeat painful patterns over and over in effort to avoid change. I believe that everyone has the power to create positive change in their lives and relationships. Often times a therapeutic alliance can facilitate that change in a safe environment. If you believe you are ready to grow as an individual, couple, or family, I would be honored to assist you in your journey.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
