If you are asking yourself the question if this is for you or your child/family member, it probably is.
Has a stressful or traumatic event left you feeling depleted, depressed, anxious, or disconnected from your loved ones? By getting lodged in our bodies, stress makes it very difficult to “just get over it,” or "move on." Moving forward and healing, however, is possible. Even by considering psychotherapy, you are making a very important first step towards regaining control of your life. Your choice to value your mental health is the key to getting back your feelings of agency, self-confidence, and sense of control of our own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

As someone with over twenty-five years of experience with all facets of mental health, as well as substance abuse, I am both well-versed & well-rounded therapeutically. I seek to provide my clients with an open, supportive, and non-judgmental modality of therapy. I seek to encourage authenticity, individuation while providing both long & short terms goals for successful outcomes with clients. Utilizing a simple approach to therapy, which seems to be extremely effective, is to stay where my clients lead & or need me to go...until a solid foundation of trust and commitment are established.

I take a basic trauma approach. Often early in life, circumstances overwhelm us. We can feel unseen and misunderstood or as if we have to perform in order to be loved and accepted. When these situations are chronic, we naturally develop automatic responses to try and solve the problem. These responses arise again and again in adulthood without our bidding, creating varying degrees of anxiety and depression which negatively impact our relationships, careers, and ambitions. The good news is the system wants to find a way to heal itself. That’s what brought you here. It is my goal to help you realize your innate perfection.

I have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Bowen Family Systems/Couple Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy and Parent Coordination and treat children, adolescents and adults in individual, family and couple's therapy.
Therapy is a collaborative partnership that functions optimally when there is a positive, working alliance and authentic attachment between a client and therapist. Goals must be focused and must reflect the issues that are most compelling for the client. A therapist should be nonjudgmental, empathetic and present. Respect for each client's journey supports the development of trust and connection, allowing each client to develop a new and empowering narrative that helps them to reshape their lives.

I help guide clients towards identifying their goals and the steps needed to improve their mental and physical health. I have found that individuals are more likely to develop healthier routines and self-care and eliminate negative habits when they are genuinely supported and gently challenged. I focus on supporting Family Systems (Parents, Children/Adolescents, Guardians, Couples) through challenging life transitions, fears and improving communication. Individuals looking to address feelings of anxiety and depression. Those looking to “break out of their shell” of shyness and discover their strengths.

Here, you will have a safe, judgment free space where the focus is solely on YOU. A place where you can learn more about yourself, your strengths, life experiences, and what you may want to change or do differently. Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
