Wouldn't it be great to get the guidance and support you need to have more ease in your mind and body? To move through life's big challenges with confidence and resilience? The truth is most of us have accumulated feelings and beliefs from traumatic and hurtful experiences. We form all kinds of uncomfortable symptoms as a result, from inner conflicts and severe self-criticism to anxiety, depression, and broken relationships. The great thing is that these uncomfortable symptoms really get our attention and can call us to a more satisfying conscious life and a much improved version of ourselves. I am here to help you do this.

Has a stressful or traumatic event left you feeling depleted, depressed, anxious, or disconnected from your loved ones? By getting lodged in our bodies, stress makes it very difficult to “just get over it,” or "move on." Moving forward and healing, however, is possible. Even by considering psychotherapy, you are making a very important first step towards regaining control of your life. Your choice to value your mental health is the key to getting back your feelings of agency, self-confidence, and sense of control of our own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) working with clients via telehealth throughout the state of NY. I work with teenagers and adults, individuals, couples, and families specializing in Anxiety, Depression, Life Changes, and Relationship difficulties. I use behavioral interventions, therapies of paradox, and solution-focused supportive processing to help clients make progress toward their goals. My approach has been most helpful for teenagers, adults, and couples committed to making changes but struggling to come out of old patterns, define the new path, and embrace the necessary discomfort of change.

As a mental health professional, i am always guiding clients to make improvements, and it isn’t always easy. I have many clients with different mental health issues. The most ideal situation with my client was when he required assistance with depressed mood and adjustment to new relationship. Assisting my client with adjustment, positive reinforcement, problem-solving skills, communication skills and relaxation techniques was rewarding. I Use that momentum and some carefully chosen resolutions and goals to help my client go into with more hope and lasting, positive changes.

People come into therapy for multiple reasons. It could be an issue with coping when something bad happens or feeling anxious or depressed or having interpersonal difficulties. I understand how painful emotional problems can be, and how they can interfere with everyday life. I believe in understanding what’s going on in the present and then building skills to deal with the future. Coping and overcoming pain and building skills are the best ways to actualize this future you. I am a full professor in the clinical psychology doctoral program at Hofstra. I am trained in CBT and have been able to help people with treatments that work.

Do you feel that you think about food more than the average person? Do you think that your body holds you back from doing the things that you want to do? Do you try to control food to feel "good" or maybe you feel like you have no control over food whatsoever and use it to cope? If any of these resonate with you, you probably have tried many ways to feel better and have been left feeling hopeless. Or maybe you feel you're imagining that you are struggling at altogether. If any of this sounds like you, you may be struggling with an eating disorder or with your body image. There is help available to you and there is hope for recovery!

Do you feel without a sense of purpose in your life? Are you in long-term addiction recovery and looking for meaning in life beyond sobriety? Have your relationships been lacking the connection you want, or has a relationship recently ended? Are you anxious about meeting new people? All these challenges are easier to overcome when there is someone facing them with you. Previous clients have worked in academia and the STEM fields, are in the process of ending long-term relationships, or are in long-term addiction recovery (at least one year).

Life is a journey and you will be hard pressed to find a completely smooth path along the way. The hard truth is that life can be filled with difficulties. However, everyone possesses inner strengths to overcome their barriers. I will assist you in bringing out these strengths and adopt healthy coping mechanisms.

The unfolding nature of our lives is a sacred journey and can be trusted. When we know how to listen, engage and trust the wisdom of our own lives, journeys and hearts, we become more ourselves. I view therapy as a process of learning to listen and live life more authentically, from our inner GPS, rather than from others telling us who we are, who we should be and what to think/do/etc. This process is key to life satisfaction as we become the person we were meant to be.

Hello! I'm a licensed therapist in Huntington, seeing clients in person and online. The idea of therapy can sometimes be overwhelming, even more overwhelming then what lead you to search for a therapist in the first place. The truth is, however, that therapy can be whatever you need it to be. Whether something as big as a life transition or something as small as a series of bad days, the therapeutic relationship can be a tool for examining, venting, learning, or guiding. It is a nonjudgmental space where you can bring anything on your mind and find the support you need to move through and forward.

Experiential Therapy

How does experiential therapy work?

Experiential therapy works by allowing an individual to use their creativity to re-imagine themselves and their lives in an effort to process their emotions. Experiential therapy may take many forms, including engaging clients through art, re-enactments, role-playing, music, or forms of physical recreation. By focusing on these activities, experiential therapists help individuals identify the emotions they associate with previous experiences and work together to cope with negative reactions, like fear, anger, or shame.

Is experiential therapy evidence-based?

Experiential therapy incorporates many therapy modalities, some of which have been more closely researched than others. Music therapy, for example, has been shown to help with sleep problems. Some studies find that art therapy can be beneficial for those with eating disorders or personality disorders, while other research suggests that such approaches have little impact.

How long does experiential therapy last?

The duration of experiential therapy will depend on the type of therapy used as well as the severity of the challenges an individual faces. Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Art therapy may comprise 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Music therapy sessions generally last between 30 and 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or on an as-needed basis. For each therapy type, clients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

Does experiential therapy help with trauma?

Trauma is one area where experiential therapy may be useful. Traumatic experiences such as combat or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating visual art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. Listening to music can be relaxing, while making music as part of a group provides plenty of opportunities to connect with other people. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, or who have been physically or emotionally abused.
