I have had the pleasure of working in this field for more than 35 years and have found that no problem is too big, peace is a position of power, and change is another word for refine/revise/adapt. My favorite quote is: "You have to fall in love with your life." Counseling is a way to learn the barriers to doing this, the tools and techniques for doing so, and shifts in beliefs needed to attain the trickle down effect from this. Clients with whom I work often are seeking shifts in their life/spiritual view, focus, behaviors and coping skills.

I understand the importance of integrating not only evidenced based interventions, but also compassion into the counseling relationship. I am an experienced clinical therapist with almost ten years of experience. My career began in substance abuse and then transitioned into serving individuals with mental health challenges. I use a number of strategies to help individuals achieve their goal with a few tactics as examining how perceptions impact problem behaviors, exploring how childhood events impact current functioning & coping as an adult and working to develop tools for improvement of emotional regulation. I also provide Christian counseling to those who are interested.

From the perspective of a therapist, my ideal client is someone who is ready to engage in the therapeutic process and is motivated to improve their mental health and overall well-being. Ultimately, they want to feel heard and validated while working towards a sense of empowerment and autonomy in their lives. They seek personal growth and healing, aiming to move beyond their current struggles to create a more fulfilling and meaningful existence.

We all face changes in our daily lives, it just depends on where those challenges come from and how you handle them. Sometimes family, friends or other areas cause one to struggle and seek guidance. Other times it is about improving a break-down in communication between parent and child, by improving interactions and communication. I understand the importance of setting reasonable expectations and helping the family to reach success as quickly as possible. I am a skilled therapist, with over ten years of experience, offering a safe place to explore challenges and make potential life changes.

I am trained in EMDR, certified in DBT, and trained in ERP for OCD treatment.
I am currently accepting new clients with week day morning & afternoon availability. Has something felt off within yourself and you can’t exactly put your finger on what that is? Welcome to a space to explore whatever has been on your mind. I’m glad you’re here. Has a situation arose where you are having trouble finding a clear path? Let me help you alleviate some of that pressure by not necessarily finding the right or wrong decision, but by exploring what decision may be right for you.

My favorite part of being a therapist is the continuously evolving relationship that I foster with my clients. I love learning about my clients— everything that makes them who they are, from their interests to their cultural influences to their friends and family, and how all of this impacts the way they view the world. I am passionate about assisting clients who suffer from anxiety, OCD, and relationship issues but also enjoy working with clients with a variety of other concerns including addictions, self-esteem, trauma, and more. I provide counseling that is culturally competent and LGBTQ+ affirming.

Given that I have my own lived experience with anxiety and OCD, I feel I can provide a deeper level of understanding for those living with anxiety and OCD.
Not interested in ERP? There is another option! I offer Inferenced-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for OCD, another evidence-based approach that looks more at demystifying and disengaging with OCD rather than exposures! Anxiety is something we all experience, but let’s be honest, having intense anxiety is not fun! It often gets in the way of doing things that we want to do! My passion is to help others, people like you and I, begin the journey of working through anxiety ( OCD, generalized anxiety, panic, illness anxiety, phobias), toward the life they want to have.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
