I work through a psychodynamic framework, integrating attachment-based, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal practices.
Everyone goes through difficulties in life, and it helps to have a nonjudgemental person to talk about those struggles. As a therapist, I help others find meaning in the difficulties they are experiencing, and strive to create a safe, secure, and trusting environment for individuals to be able to explore why they are feeling the way they are.

Hi, my name is Yuri and I want to create spaces for people to unwind and release, facilitating a place for comfort, privacy, safety, venting, learning, and growth. Starting therapy can sound daunting, having to open up and be vulnerable in hopes of getting better. You've already taken the first step by being here and reading this! Imagine your life being fulfilled with a sense of purpose, calm, and at any point a tough spot arises, you know how to manage your feelings and the situation in front of you. As our journey here comes together, I look forward to be the guide and ask you the questions you need to find your path.

Considering therapy? What keeps you from your goals? What gets in the way of satisfying relationships in your personal life and career? We will work together to make a safe space so we can find out what really needs to change. Then we look for solutions you can actually live out in your daily life, the life you want.

We are defined by our relationships. Relationship to ourselves, to others and to the world. Relationship dynamics get formed in attempts to succeed in life. Though sometimes we may succeed in relationship at certain points in life, those same dynamics can also become unproductive. At that point we can use the dynamic to understand the problem and determine the adjustments that then lead to success once again.

Are you living the life you want? Is your relationship a source of pain for you? Are you arguing more, trusting less, or finding yourself not looking forward to spending time together? Maybe your relationship feels stuck, like you're just replaying the same disagreement over and over again. Do you not like the person you are when you're in a relationship or wonder why you keep repeating patterns in the type of person you date? Human beings are wired for connection, yet somehow the people we are closest with also seem to cause us the most pain.

Many of us turn to therapy because we feel lost, frustrated, or exhausted. Maybe we’re tired of swimming against the currents of anxiety or depression, but can’t find our way out. We may put on a happy face, while pushing aside painful emotions. Or we yearn for more meaningful connections, but past wounds or the residue of trauma make that feel out of reach. Even when we understand our negative patterns, undoing them can feel intimidating. I believe we all have the capacity to heal and grow. That’s why I’ve dedicated myself to helping individuals and couples who are ready to do the deep, transformative work towards change.

In my practice you will find a safe, non-judgemental place where you can stop and take stock of your life. Somewhat like a shelter when you feel stuck and need to find a way out. I work with people with issues that are very specific - a relationship/job problem, repetitive thoughts and rituals. As well as with people with problems that feel deeply perplexing - a vague and sometimes acute feeling something is wrong in their life. In either case, I can help you overcome the emotional challenge you face now and find a better footing to tackle whatever you might encounter to live a happier, more fulfilled life.

Mental health symptoms can exert a painfully strong hold on our lives and take an exhaustive toll. Symptoms can range from anxiety or depression, to a sense of being stuck, to reactions stemming from current circumstances or one’s life history. My practice is guided by the principal that you and I working collaboratively, engaged in a project of speaking and listening—being curious about one’s inner world—can have a significant impact on one’s symptoms. While this practice focuses on reducing suffering it also seeks to produce change.

Your experience : "I feel angry or frustrated most of the time! I'm easily triggered and overreact. Why do I feel nervous, uncomfortable, shy or 'off' around people? I get invitations, but feel anxious to commit. So I cancel at the last minute! Then beat myself up for doing so! I need to speak - say something when I feel disrespected, but I don't. Then, I build resentments, grudges toward them, and blame myself for not speaking up!? But how and what to say in a way they can hear me? I really don't understand my behavior, my mind or my decisions." This vignette represents anxiety, fear and distorted thinking. Suffering.

Finding someone who truly recognizes the unique nature of your struggles can be challenging. I believe that effective therapy must be tailored to the individual as there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all method of counseling. My approach recognizes that the strength of the therapeutic bond is a prerequisite for meaningful change to occur. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, interpersonal strife, or trauma, I will take every effort to make you feel safe, supported, and heard.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
