My clinical background includes working with adolescents/adults at a psychiatric hospital in the outpatient substance abuse clinic: working with clients who struggle with chemical dependency along with mental health disorders.
Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my profile! The decision to enter into counseling is an important step on the road to wellness and self-discovery. As we move along our journey in life, we sometimes encounter bends in the road that impact us in difficult ways. At times it may be difficult to catch up with yourself, and when you finally do, it can seem overwhelming. Life can be full of concerns, struggles, and difficulties that cause anxiety, depression, peer and family/marital conflicts.

Please note: as of September 2023 I am only able to accept new clients with daytime availability as my evening appointments are currently filled. Fred Rogers said, “Confronting our feelings and giving them appropriate expression always takes strength not weakness.” I believe that we all have complex feelings and sometimes we need help to express and manage our emotions. Through out my career I have held various roles supporting children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to providing therapy I am trained in career counseling and college planning.

I’ve worked with adolescents and adults, and have always had a passion for working with children.
I’m so glad you’re here! Reaching out for help can be a scary, overwhelming, and daunting task. It’s not easy to admit when you’re struggling, especially when you don’t understand what’s going on inside your own mind. If you’re beginning to take the steps to therapy, be proud and never underestimate your strength. I’d like to be here for you on this new journey in your life, to figure out the ups and downs, and help you progress the way you’re looking for.

I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults going through various life struggles.
Life is a journey of self discovery. It can sometimes surprise us, throw us a bit of a curveball, and leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, and lost. These feelings can cause depression, anxiety, or both. If this resonates with you, I can help. I strongly believe that therapy and the therapeutic relationship between a client and their therapist can lead the way to the progress and change that you are looking for.

The only way to change is to define who you are and then change your habits to align with who your new self is. It's as simple as that, but the problem that arises the most with the clients who come into my office is; who is this new person I want to be. This can be difficult, because many times there are many underlying factors that prevent us, or that we perceive prevent us from taking the steps we need to move forward. It is my job is to help you realize what great potential you have inside you already. With that said let's work together to pick apart the old ideas you have of yourself, and create a new pathway forward.

Adolescents often begin therapy against their will and I've been able to help many of them see the benefits of therapy.
Understanding yourself can sometimes be the most difficult thing to struggle with. It's as though we have a blindspot when it comes to self. It can be helpful to seek out a more objective view. I can offer support, validation, and insight in a relaxed, non-threatening atmosphere.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
