Many people see therapy as a one-sided conversation, with little opportunity for interaction or getting to experience each other as real people. I can promise you that I am as real as it gets! I want to help you achieve whatever goals, solutions and life changes you are looking for while enjoying the process as much as possible and experiencing yourself in new ways. Simply put, I don’t believe therapy has to always be a painful thing. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment (and maybe a deep breath) to call or email and see how I can help.

I work with clients who have varying struggles from anxiety, body image, depression and life transitions. Our daily struggles are held within our body and impact everything from daily functioning, relationships to how we take up space in our environment. As a dance/movement therapist I will utilize body based interventions (ex. breathing, imagery and metaphor) to assist in exploring how your body holds onto symptoms. Through the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit you can explore how to shift to allow daily life to become more manageable and enjoyable.

With over 15 years of experience in mental health, I have worked with at-risk youth, families in crisis, women affected by domestic violence, adolescents and children with chronic mental health conditions, and individuals who have been incarcerated.
I utilize a range of effective psychotherapy methods to foster self-understanding in my clients, encouraging them to embrace new perspectives and attitudes towards life’s challenges. It’s important to recognize that therapy isn’t a quick fix or a magic pill; it’s a healing journey that requires active participation and commitment from both the client and the therapist. However, by making small adjustments to self-defeating behaviors and learning to manage feelings of sadness, fear, and pain, clients can achieve transformative, life-changing results.

We all have options. Why not take that option to ask for help when things seem to be out of control? We may experience challenging times which may cause anxiety and depression. I can assist with developing essential social, emotional, behavioral and daily living skills. In my practice, I utilize a variety of evidence based treatment modalities. I work with all age groups and have an extensive background in different roles as a social worker.

I work with adults who want to address anxiety disorders, past trauma, and interpersonal/attachment concerns. My therapeutic approach is catered for each client. For those with anxiety, I use evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) to help my clients learn about the intersections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Much of therapy includes learning and trying out new ways of thinking, utilizing coping skills that emphasize regulating your nervous system, and safely exposing yourself to anxiety-provoking things in order to overcome your fears.

You have been in therapy before and although helpful, you still struggle with your relationships and with your self-esteem. That nagging negative core belief (I'm not enough; I'm unlovable, etc.) you have about yourself is still there and won't go away. Past traumas (big or small) have left you feeling unsafe, unseen and misunderstood. You find you either overreact or underreact. Old thoughts/feelings, excessive anxiety, worry, ruptured attachments, low confidence or depression has you feeling stuck, and you want better for yourself and for those around you.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
