I use elements of many different modalities, including somatic based interventions.
I believe the relationship between a client and therapist is sacred. I think therapy is a reciprocal process, and I have learned a great deal of life lessons from my clients. I customize my approach based on my client's needs, values, and/or willingness to gently explore a new framework. There are benefits to talk therapy and immense benefits to somatic based practices. I invite my clients to tune in to the ways their bodies communicate with them on a daily basis and to use that information to improve their relationships with themselves and others.

My approach is trauma informed, parts informed, somatic, healing focused, culturally grounded, and liberation oriented.
If you are struggling with stress, sadness, rage, overwhelm, and loss, I can help. As you move through your current struggles, would you like to work together for connection, healing, learning, and liberation? Would you like to explore all aspects of your identity and how they are uniquely connected to community, culture, family, history, and structural power? Would you like to tell your story and have someone bear witness to the telling? With a warm, empathic, listening, and embodied style, I focus on identifying wellness strategies, creating communities of support and healing while connecting people to necessary resources.

I incorporate somatic and mindfulness practices with these frameworks to help you discover and change unconscious patterns and attachment dynamics.
Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, or grief that affects your ability to function and connect in relationships? Do you feel overwhelmed and stuck, like time is passing you by? Perhaps you get caught in ruminating loops of worry or find yourself feeling despairing and empty. Do you continually distract and insulate yourself from your feelings? Or wonder if life could be better if you could feel everything less intensely? If you work with me, we can first work on regulating your emotions so you can feel and function better. Then, we can explore the unconscious and intergenerational dynamics that block you from moving forward.

I provide an integrative individual counseling service. I am interested in supporting clients to make healthy changes and growths in their lives through deepening their awareness of themselves and the world around them. Through this unique therapy relationship we will address current and past concerns from a Gestalt model. We will work together through problems in the here and now, including mindfulness, somatic awareness, meditations, laughter, parts work, and stress reduction practices. I also believe in empowerment in therapy and I believe that the greatest source of healing already exists in each of us as human beings.

I relate to client struggles through the lens of real-world experience. During my 30 year career supporting others through workplace and life challenges as a leadership and executive coach in HR/organizational and leadership development roles for corporations and nonprofits, I found my calling as a psychotherapist in how “what we do,” intersects with “who we are." My approach is eclectic and intuitive, tailored to your unique needs, and drawing from various therapeutic modalities, including neuro-informed somatic practice, and strengths-based perspectives.

Working through these things in therapy can be incredibly transformative and rewarding, and they can also take a long time. It is important to find someone who meets you where you are at and that you feel connected to them. I am committed to providing a warm, accepting presence so that you can feel inspired to take risks and explore your inner world.

As a Somatic Therapist, I believe it is essential to work with the mind-body connection in the therapy process so that healing can happen not just by making sense of things in our mind but in our body, where memories are stored.
Do you feel uneasy, tense, or unsafe in your own body? Trapped by your own thoughts and emotions, or a nagging feeling or muscular tension that seem unrelated to your emotional state? I know that feeling; that sensation that we try to ignore but just won’t go away. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, the stress of everyday life or the aftermath of trauma, your body is the container that holds it all—thoughts, feelings, sensations—all our lived experiences that make us who we are. Some of these experiences can help us thrive, feel safe and connected and some can make us feel stuck, uncertain, and reactive.

My unique training in both behavioral and somatic therapies allows me to craft a treatment plan with your input that best fits your needs. I believe in utilizing the wisdom of the body , the rich information present in emotions, an examination of how you show up in the world behaviorally, and the way your mind has learned to protect you in order to guide you toward resiliency and improved coping with daily life. You will learn coping skills through mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and somatic resourcing. We talk and problem solve when needed and somatically process when indicated.

Our trauma often plays out in our life through struggles with substance abuse or self-harm as a way to cope with intolerable feelings; difficulty in intimate relationships; persistent self doubt; or overwhelming somatic feelings.
Do you feel like the same scene is playing out in your life over and over again, but an inability to change the script? Do you feel powerless in managing confusing and intense feelings and difficulty in understanding why you feel this way? I am a psychotherapist specializing in trauma-focused treatments for children, adults, and couples. I believe that most people who walk into the therapist's office have difficulties that are rooted in trauma. Most traumatic experiences happen in the context of a relationship and can also be healed in the context of a safe therapeutic relationship.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
