My approach to therapy is based on intersectional, feminist, and relational perspectives.
Do you want to explore the identities and experiences that impact how you move through the world? I am a queer, Black-biracial, first-generation American living in Brooklyn, and I believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, grounded and whole. In a society that capitalizes on passive acceptance, connection, laughter, tears, and authenticity are radical acts. I am particularly interested in working with clients who have felt othered: this could mean that you experience your identities as fluid and you feel the pressure of society trying to fit you into a box. I am a therapist because I want you to feel loved, just as you are.

With a passion for social and racial justice, I'm also grounded in Feminist theory, identity, and intersectionality.
Do you struggle navigating life? Do you wish you could increase your understanding and skills to make life less challenging? The good news is therapy can help you gain control over your life and pursue your dreams. Life is beautiful, but there are many tools that we as humans need to reach our full potential. Low confidence, readiness to change, trouble communicating, and lack of social support are just some barriers that can prevent you from getting “unstuck.” As a member of the Queer community, I empathize with these experiences and I have done intensive work personally and professionally that has changed my life for the better.

I practice out of a worker owned psychotherapy collective with anti-capitalist, feminist, LGBTQIA-affirming, and anti-racist values, which are all incorporated into my work with clients.
My practice as a psychotherapist prioritizes creating an unconditionally accepting space where you are free to explore your truest self. With postgraduate training in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), I work with adults, couples, and adolescents using an integrated trauma-informed approach. My clients describe me as warm, real, thoughtful, and engaged.

I work through trauma-informed, contemplative, feminist, and humanistic lenses.
In suffering, what do you move towards? Maybe your methods of coping with feelings of emptiness or self-criticism feel repetitive. Eventually, you find yourself trapped in a cycle that distances you from what you most want for yourself. You don’t have to do this alone. Working as an IFS clinician, I prioritize making space for all parts of you. Sometimes the tools we once used to survive may no longer serve us. Luckily, the attempts we make to keep ourselves safe are an example of our capacity for resilience. Together, we can find new ways to channel your strengths toward creating the life you truly desire.

My Feminist Therapy approach is rooted in understanding, respect, and empowerment.
When we experience significant challenges in our lives – whether it is an obstacle or a lack of clarity in what we find meaningful - it can lead to persistent or intense feelings of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. I work with adult clients to try to process and resolve these experiences. I work with activists, creatives, teachers, lawyers, caregivers, young parents, LGBTQ+ individuals and others to address a range of issues including depression and anxiety, issues around gender identity and sexuality, grief and loss, low self-esteem, social and financial stress, and experiences of oppression.

My lens and therapeutic approach are intersectional and informed by anti-colonist, queer, feminist, psychodynamic, and mindfulness-based theories.
Therapy provides opportunities for liberation - for understanding what the narrative in your life has been in order to realize what it could be. With curiosity and gentleness, we will explore experiences, relationships, patterns, and parts of your identity that feel limiting. I believe healing comes when you view yourself not as someone who needs fixing, but as someone who is complex and ever-changing and has continued to persist despite the messiness, conflict, and struggle life brings. I value transparency and see my role as that of a witness and guide as we create a space of validation, honesty, warmth, partnership, and growth.

I specialize in working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, poor self-esteem and interpersonal challenges. I want clients to be themselves in session and I am big on storytelling - your narrative matters! I use a combination of trauma-based intersectional feminist therapy, gestalt therapy and trauma-informed CBT. I work with clients from all backgrounds; especially Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) communities who have felt silenced or invalidated in their personal and professional lives. I believe in creating a safe, nurturing environment though I also believe in courageous conversations in session.

At QuIPP, we are queer, non-binary, depth-oriented, feminist, and trauma-informed. Our therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic and we seek to explore the deep impacts of others (familial, peer, and social) on the minds and spirits of our clients. Our clinical areas of expertise include: gender & sexuality, trauma, transition related support, and poly/kinky & sex positivity. Given that trauma and emotional pain often originate within relationships, we take a relational (and deeply compassionate) approach to therapy.

My approach to counseling is driven by the belief that each person’s life experience contributes to a personal and powerful story. Through conversation and active listening, I guide clients through the process of uncovering pieces of their story to see how they fit together. Informed by my lived experience as a queer person, I recognize the necessity of approaching counseling through an intersectional, antiracist lens. I am cognizant of external factors that influence life experiences and therefore I apply a feminist, multicultural perspective to my therapeutic approach.

I practice psychotherapy utilizing client-centered, trauma-informed and intersectional; LGBTQ+, kink/Poly+, and gender affirming; Black Queer feminist interventions.
You are just as important to your communities as your communities are to you. This framework grounds the work I do. Western concepts of healing have historically enforced rigid individualism as the ideal way of life. However, I believe that understanding who you are, as both an individual and community member, makes space for your more nuanced, wholesome, and expansive narrative. My work with clients focuses on being present with emotions, navigating individual and collective traumas, reconnecting to your physical body, and empowering healing and joy. I'm hoping for healing and liberation for us all!

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
