I am here to support you on your journey of healing and growth. I truly believe that we each have the power to heal ourselves and live meaningful lives full of depth, joy and love. I am a Somatic Core Energetics practitioner and I will help you to integrate body, mind and emotions. Core energetics is a body-oriented psychotherapy that works with a person's emotional blocks, often held in the body. Life can be more joyful when old pain is released through energetic movement. We bring consciousness to old patterns to free ourselves and make lasting changes.

Are you seeking a culturally sensitive therapist who will not make stereotypical assumptions, but will honor your unique story, history and journey? Have you been told that therapy is for the weak or for those whose faith is not strong enough? Are you looking for a place where you can feel safe enough to say everything you need to without feeling as though you need to take care of the therapist?

Protecting yourself from pain by trying not to feel it only causes more pain. Do you distract yourself from uncomfortable feelings by over-working, eating or drinking too much, shopping, or dating? Much unhappiness is created by no longer useful coping devices. Avoiding feelings like anger, shame, regret and powerlessness, closes off access to informative parts of you. In our work together, I utilize practical tools, not just theory, to help you identify and remain connected to your feelings. Staying connected to yourself while relating to others allows for loving in healthy ways and feeling loved and valued by others.

The work of therapy entails a deep, genuine engagement with ourselves - at times the unknown or unpleasant parts of ourselves. As with all challenging tasks, therapy is most rewarding when approached with honesty and openness. I have been practicing psychotherapy with individuals and couples for 15+ years and I am committed to offering my clients expert and compassionate help on this courageous journey. I will work with you to tailor a treatment that is both comprehensive and responsive to your needs, whether they involve difficulties with a loved one or problematic patterns that you find yourself recreating in your life.

You are not alone. Seeking help is one of the hardest and bravest actions we take. Life can be a lot. I use a relational collaborative approach to treatment with the use of skill, humor, and acceptance. While I am an expert in specific treatment approaches you are the expert on your life. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I specialize in DBT and treatment of eating disorders and addictions. I am passionate about recovery based treatment and the power of vulnerability. I believe in change and action based approaches to facilitate exposure and hope around building the life and relationships you want.

Dr. Baten incorporates CBT and holistic health in her practice. She helps individuals, children, families and couples develop new strategies to change old patterns. She stimulates emotional growth by teaching people to replace their self-defeating thoughts, feelings and actions with new and more effective ones. Patients are taught to identify the dysfunctional beliefs that lead to negative consequences in their mood and behavior as well as to replace poor food and lifestyle choices. She encourages individuals to be responsible for their own emotions, empowering them to change and overcome unhealthy behaviors that interfere with their ability to enjoy life.

The decision to enter therapy represents an important investment in improving the quality of your life. I believe that therapy is a dynamic, creative process that centers on the questions you would like to explore and the changes you wish to make within yourself. In the context of a safe and nonjudgmental space, we will explore patterns in your life and how your past experiences have contributed to your current concerns. Together, we will replace problematic coping strategies with effective ones; discover new perspectives on recurring issues; and come to a deeper understanding of yourself and others.

IMMmediate ONLINE openings in NYC area. You’ve been struggling with anxiety and trauma for too long. You’ve tried therapy, meditation, yoga, but your anxiety still overwhelms you. Are you looking for a Holistic Therapy approach to address your needs as a sensitive person? We all have an innate ability to heal and prosper. But often due to trauma or emotional and mental habits learned in childhood, we lose touch with this capacity. Highly sensitive people have a strong intuitive sense about this, but often ignore it, which can lead to a breakdown in mental, emotional, and sometimes even physical health.

I work with clients on whatever issues they are having. Common issues often include anxiety, depression, relationship concerns and life transitions. I work with all age groups, from children through "senior citizens," and have training and experience working with diverse populations. I believe it is one of my strengths as a psychologist and a person that I welcome and appreciate each person for his/her uniqueness. This includes being sensitive and open to cultural, racial and sexual orientations different from my own, as well as having an appreciation for clients who come from backgrounds similar to mine.

Embarking upon the journey of psychotherapy is no easy task, but ultimately can prove to be one of life's most important and transformative decisions. I start wherever you are, providing an empathic and accepting space for us to collaboratively begin to understand and shift areas of difficulty, conflict, confusion, or stuckness in order to create a more satisfying and fulfilling life in the areas that are most important to you.

At Somatic Freedom Therapy, we know that many people are not able to access the sense of freedom that they deserve! So many people are imprisoned by their pain, suffering and the systems that perpetuate it! Maybe you have noticed that you are not happy; not feeling confident or that fear and worry are stopping you from living the purposeful life that you dream of living. Or perhaps depression is holding up your life goals? Do you wish that you could remain present and feel a sense of aliveness? Have you noticed that you have lost your sense of joy and easeful ability to connect to others with playfulness?

I bet you've probably spent a good deal of time sifting through the sea of clinicians listed on this website, and let me tell you, it is a beast. Finding a good therapist is like dating. Who looks smart? Who seems warm and compassionate? Who's attractive? Nobody is perfect, but you don't want to settle either. Perhaps they have great insight and are very pedigreed, but don't seem particularly warm or approachable. Or vice versa. What to do? Shop around until you find a proper match. You are unique. Not every therapist may suit you.

Therapy can do more than heal your pain. It will do that, of course--alleviate your depression, your anxiety, the pain of trauma or loss, of "getting in your own way" in the search for a good relationship or career achievement. But there's more to therapy than just relief from suffering; it can also help you grow into a more open, loving, creative, courageous, and alive version of yourself. As I help you heal the troubles that first deliver you into my office, I will always spend equal attention on exploring and nurturing your undiscovered potential.

I work with couples and individuals in couples counseling and psychotherapy. My approach is collaborative, interactive, engaged, to be "in it with you." I believe that core and primary emotions, when explored and shared in a safe environment with a secure other, can achieve the transformation we desire--toward relief, confidence, an expanded sense of self, authenticity, happiness, peace, joy, meaning and depth, satisfaction, openness and nurturing, loving relationships.

In individual psychotherapy, we look at how you are currently living and clarify what is working for you and what you want to change. A therapeutic conversation heightens awareness of your feelings, thoughts, sensations and behaviors. With my support, you learn to use your growing awareness as ground for taking experimental steps in new enlivening directions. Our therapy process leads toward resolution, change and growth. I will help you apply what you learn in therapy to your daily life. Our working relationship is important, so the first step is to meet one another. I look forward to meeting you.
