Sharing yourself with someone new takes vulnerability and bravery. Sharing your relationship struggles with someone new can be intimidating as well. As a trauma-focused individual and relationship therapist, I aim to make the experience as comfortable as possible for you. I believe that we are all deserving of compassion, respect, and generosity. My clients have diverse lived experiences and backgrounds. As such, I approach my practice with an intersectional perspective, ensuring your therapeutic experience is individually tailored to your needs.

Welcome! If you are queer, trans, nonbinary, questioning, neurodivergent, kinky, poly, or otherwise inclined to defy mainstream narratives of mental health and well-being, then I may be the right fit for you. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the New York metro area, I offer an oasis of compassion, creativity, and self-reflection. I have several years of experience working as a body-neutral and LGBTQ-affirming sex educator, as well as working with queer and trans youth of color. I am especially proud to assist others in dismantling internalized forms of oppression and critically reframing their experiences with radical self-love.

One way I've been able to help people is to assist them in preventing things in their life from getting worse and at the same time, helping them to overcome the obstacles in order to make things better.

If you or your family are managing life transitions, loss, illness, or the aftereffects of trauma, I will provide a comforting environment where you can share your troubles and find new hope. I believe that therapy should be an enjoyable process, even if it contains challenging moments and feelings. You have worked hard to make it to this point and deserve to experience ease in the therapy room.

I believe that whatever troubles or challenges you, it still does not define you psychologically or reduce the whole of your identity. Therefore, in all aspects of the life you bring to therapy: in your past, present, your external and inner being, I see promising pathways toward a fuller understanding of your living reality. Within it we find and engage your authentic ability to master pain and fear, to choose more fulfilling options for living. Our view is founded on recognition of your unique connection to the common ground of human experience: a shared territory in which we all sometimes struggle, and in which I include myself.

I am a licensed psychotherapist specializing in depression, anxiety, relationship issues and eating disorders. I have worked in private practice for years and as a consulting therapist with the Eating Disorder Resource Center. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia University and advanced study in psychoanalysis from the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health. This training has taught me to appreciate the formative role our early life and family experience plays in our emotional and psychological development. I enjoy working with people who are curious about themselves and their emotional struggles and are willing to look more closely at what motivates them.

Have you chosen to take the first step toward resuming control in your life? This is an excellent beginning toward creating and attaining your personal goals. It is a journey of self-discovery you will no longer make alone. I would enjoy helping you to overcome your fears and problems that are stopping you from moving forward. We will discuss issues (past and present) that have kept you immobile. From there, you will gain insight that will give you the impetus to make decisions that will foster change.

My practice primarily focuses on individuals seeking treatment for issues of self-esteem, relationships or work problems. These problems can create feelings of despair, loneliness, and hopelessness. Normally, we all begin experiencing these feelings as children and as adults we may develop behavioral patterns which contribute to the perpetuation of low self-esteem. In therapy, we explore the reasons for self-defeating behavior. As we become more aware of what we do and why we do it, we can begin making the necessary changes for a successful future.

I am an experienced hospice executive, familiar with Medicare and care of elder patients.
Individual Therapy: If therapy is not moving you palpably forward, you're wasting your time. I will help you overcome your personal and family history and pave the way for progress. Want to clarify your goals? I can help you to get there. Couples therapy: Relationships are sacred endeavors. My job is to help you unravel the layers of misunderstandings, resentments and disappointments and replace them with the skills of listening and love. Why do we treat our friends better than our partners? Because we've forgotten the art of friendship within love.

The way I see it, our bodies serve as a living repository, holding our true self, our joy and happiness, our fears, and the pain and suffering we have endured. Oftentimes, our true self can be overwhelmed by the pain, suffering, and fears, creating a life that feels like we are just surviving. I believe therapy can help one transition from surviving to thriving and being their authentic self.

I am a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst with over 25 years of experience helping a wide range of individuals. All shared feelings of being stuck or blocked in fundamental areas of their lives. Powerful feelings and beliefs involving shame, fear, anger and sadness had disconnected them from inner sources of strength and self-esteem, and had prevented them from living and working freely and fully. I see psychotherapy as a collaborative relationship in which we identify and resolve those obstacles, leaving you with a new or renewed sense of authenticity, energy and hope.

I'm an interactive individual and couples therapist who believes that sometimes a short series of focused sessions can resolve a painful dilemma, while complicated, deeply rooted issues may call for a substantial course of treatment. In either case, your therapy should look like nobody else's -- because it takes its shape uniquely around you. I'm experienced and well-trained. When we meet, I'll listen with care and speak honestly about how I see your particular situation and what I think would help.

I have a diverse background with training in child and adult therapy, nutritional counseling, life coaching, and logotherapy. I am best suited to work people experiencing anxiety and depression. Psychotherapy typically focuses on how our past experiences drive us as adults while coaching is more forward-looking, and focuses on setting goals and looking at obstacles that get in the way of reaching those goals. Logotherapy is geared toward helping people find meaning and purpose in life. Child therapy helps children become more expressive of their emotions and develop more awareness of their strengths and to apply them in life.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
