My primary goal is to curate non-judgmental, culturally safe spaces for clients of all backgrounds, and put the ‘A’ in LGBTQA-affirming. As an Afro-Latino female clinician, I am especially passionate about serving people in my community and normalizing aspects of identity and culture that society may not recognize or understand. I understand people of color don’t always feel seen and heard, women of color even more so. I take pride in offering a space and opportunity for clients to experience therapeutic belonging and the freedom to be themselves when processing life's experiences.

I seek to create an affirming, supportive space to explore raw emotions without judgment. My aim is to guide you on your journey of self-awareness so that you can make informed decisions about your life. I have specialized training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, which I combine with other modalities to help clients actualize a deeper sense of self-awareness. I practice from a trauma-informed perspective and racial equity lens, and understand that each client is an intersection of the various identities they are balancing (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, culture).

Feel overwhelmed being there for everyone else but struggle with self-care? Annoyed when you check in on others but feel unnoticed? Procrastinating on personal goals while multitasking effortlessly for others? You might be a people pleaser. Let me help you redirect that love and care to yourself. It's tough seeking love from others who don't reciprocate. Many never learned self-love due to conditional love or caregivers who didn't know how. As an adult, you can learn to love yourself more.

Psychotherapy is a deeply personal journey into getting to know yourself. The start of treatment is truly an important first step into understanding yourself and your past, finding ways to cope with your current struggles, and ultimately improving your overall quality of life. I specialize in helping people to manage emotional and anxiety-related difficulties, as these tend to strongly impact interpersonal relationships and general life-satisfaction. My goal is to meet you where you are while guiding you in getting to the root of these issues so that we can work collaboratively toward your treatment goals.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
