I utilize EMDR, Havening, and Flash Technique.
I view psychotherapy as a way to reach intellectual, emotional, and spiritual balance. I combine psychoanalytic understanding with mind-body techniques. I focus on uncovering patterns and barriers that prevent you from reaching your potential and become your true self. Psychotherapy is a process that allows us to gain insight into better understanding of yourself and others, to learn new, more constructive ways of dealing with difficulties, and more enjoyable ways of relating to others and yourself. It is a way to uncover clarity of our past, present, and future, which can lead to wisdom of oneself, life, and the peace of mind.

Throughout the treatment process, we may engage in various phases, including cognitive restructuring, trauma processing with EMDR, and ongoing mindfulness practices to support emotional regulation and integration.
Collaboratively, I assess the client's concerns, formulate treatment goals, and facilitate the interplay of cognitive, behavioral, and trauma-related factors. Together, we develop a tailored treatment plan that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness techniques based on the client's specific needs and goals.

I am a psychodynamically trained psychotherapist and have worked with adults and children for 18 years around issues that include PTSD, trauma, relationship problems, employment concerns, parenting questions, grief and loss, depression, and anxiety. I have found that talking can greatly reduce stress and distress and can lead to significant change. People tend to find immediate relief after beginning the process. I also practice Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help people work through traumas and areas where they are stuck in their lives.

I provide CBT, DBT, EMDR, psychodynamic work and tangible actions or insight for clients to utilize inside and outside of sessions to ensure they get the most out of our work together.
I invite clients struggling with an array of issues from anxiety, codependency, addiction, and eating disorders to work with me. I am usually the best fit for people who are motivated and looking to make difficult changes in their life that they have struggled with managing on their own and need more support with. In a world of artificial intimacy (AI), my goal as a therapist is to build authentic connections with people to help them shrink the gap between where they are and where they want to be. When working with me, my approach is gently direct and collaborative.

In addition to my 20+ years of working with people, I am certified in anger management, career counseling and trained in EMDR, IFS, and mindfulness based CBT.
Hi, thank you for stopping by. Breaking unhealthy patterns of behavior. Struggling with a (recent or past) traumatic event. Working on your anger or other emotions that get in the way of achieving goals. Learning how to set boundaries. Gaining insight about yourself. Learning more effective ways to communicate at work or in your personal relationship. Can't vent to friends or family anymore. All of these are the right reasons for therapy. This is the first step towards feeling better, thinking better, working better and living better.

I am also trained in EMDR, which helps you to address past emotional injuries as it relates to the issue.
Being a Black person in a professional leadership position can be extremely tough, to say the least. You more than likely received that position due to your uncanny ability of taking care of everybody & everything, and getting sh!t done! Not only are you good at this on the job, but you are typically good at doing this in your personal life. You’re the “responsible” one - the one that everyone in your circles can rely on. While there are benefits from being seen in this manner, you are constantly working, & overworking. Not to mention, working through the microaggressions, and harmful behaviors from other coworkers at work.

In addition to working with couples and families, I also provide trauma resolution for individuals using modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), seamlessly blending them with conventional person-centered, solution-focused, and CBT-based interventions.
I have a deep appreciation for the transformative power embedded within relational dynamics. Early in my educational journey, I immersed myself in family systems theory and practice, unveiling the unique potency residing in healing connections. I find a special resonance in my work with couples and families and use an integrative approach to relational healing, drawing upon the wisdom of John and Julie Gottman, Esther Perel and Terry Real among others. I recognize that the experiences of trauma and adversity often have relational aspects to them. But so too does our capacity for healing and building resilience.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
