The practice New Decision Therapy was designed to heal those who have less than ideal relationships with themselves and others. When trauma happens to us, these memories embed themselves in our bodies on a cellular level. This is what leads to our particular types of behavior, personalities and affects our reactions and relationships. When we feel overwhelmed, unhappy, alone and disconnected, this is a matter of suppressed trauma and previous pain. NDT goes into the memory, back to where the pain or trauma initially happened, and removes that old memory and pain through taking a New Decision which only happens through forgiveness.

I have extensive experience helping individuals who are processing trauma and life transitions. My clients are typically looking to integrate their past life, culture, values, and identity into their present and future life while learning to understand themselves and what works best for them. Individuals may be experiencing life transitions into parenthood, marriage, divorce, adulthood, pre/post college, a queer identity, or a new diagnosis or disability.

Hi! I'm a Columbia University-trained, NY & NJ licensed, Asian American psychologist specializing in therapy for self-esteem, anxiety, trauma, and relationships. May I ask, do you often feel exhausted by anxious thoughts, feeling often uneasy as if there’s a pit in your stomach? Do you currently struggle with low self-esteem and depressed mood? Is there loneliness at times and wish you could make more meaningful connections? What if I tell you that you CAN learn ways to calm your anxieties, be more confident, find greater peace, and learn to better connect with friends, family, and partner!

La’Tish practices from a holistic, culturally affirming and strength-based approach. She is passionate about providing women and couples with the supportive care that helps them thrive. Many of her clients feel exhausted balancing their multiple roles and even though their drive leads to high achievement, it burns them out, leaving them with anxiety, depression, and increased challenges in their relationships. La’Tish helps these clients unpack the stuff that has been hard to deal with alone, find balance in their lives and reconnect with their values within a supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic space.

While navigating your inner world and relationships, you may be feeling uncomfortable, overwhelmed, or alone. I work with individual clients experiencing interpersonal stress—whether it be rooted in anxiety, depression, or anger. If you’re holding unresolved emotions like irritability, stress, or sadness, you might be experiencing relationship strain with family, conflict at work, or difficulty expressing your feelings in an intimate partnership. If you’re a loved one of someone living with borderline personality disorder or severe and persistent mental illness, you may be feeling helpless or struggling to find supportive direction.

My approach is supportive, collaborative, and interactive. After an initial assessment, I may start by providing information about different therapy techniques and why they may be helpful for your concerns. I also start from a place of strength — though you may begin therapy feeling low or nervous, I aim to remind you of the resilience and skills you already possess, while helping you discover new ways to look at and tackle obstacles. I’m a fan of handouts and worksheets, and may encourage you to do practice exercises between sessions to work on the skills you’re learning.

Therapy can be a wonderful way of finding meaning in one's life - as it is now - while still striving to make important changes. Using a whole-person approach to treatment, I take into account one's personal goals, culture, spiritual beliefs, and current life context. I believe a thoughtful, individualized, and collaborative approach tends to be the most therapeutic. At this time I am only doing tele therapy and only for those in NY. I also offer coaching for psychology professionals looking to make the switch to online work. My current areas of focus are stress management, habit change, self-compassion and intuition development.

Therapy is a collaboration toward your healing and self-exploration. Finding the right person who is attuned and able to respond to your needs is essential. My approach is, above all else, to be with you with thoughtful attention and curiosity. The ways we listen to you together will uncover your natural ability to nourish healthy aspects of the self, and transform wounded or stuck parts. These fragmentations often result in anxiety, depression, creative blocks, issues with self esteem or relationships. I also see couples with difficulties in conflict, communicating, and understanding the other.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
