Entering into the therapeutic process is the best investment we can make in ourselves. I have rich and varied experience working with clients in crisis - experiencing challenges with relationships, self-image, depression, anxiety, uncontrolled mood changes, and past trauma. I work primarily with individuals, couples and families seeking to enhance their quality of life through the guided process of self-exploration, reflection and growth. I have a natural penchant for building relationships and a practical action-oriented approach.

I am focused on how your body is telling you what it needs, what it likes, and what it fears.
Are you feeling disconnected from your close ones? Are you looking to improve your outlook? Do you have pain from your past that you'd like to work on? Working through these things in therapy can be incredibly transformative and rewarding, and they can also take a long time. It is important to find someone who meets you where you are at and that you feel connected to them. I am committed to providing a warm, accepting presence so you can feel inspired to take risks and explore your inner world.

Are you stuck? Same problems, same thoughts? Unable to play, or imagine something different? Depression, anxiety, addictions and trauma require another person to help you understand their pull and face them, so they no longer control your life. Suffering alone only forces the pain underground to emerge in symptoms, behaviors and personal interactions that undermine your life and lead you to hide even more from others. The therapy relationship is one where you hope to explore who you are with another person to allow your desires to emerge without shame and fear.

We have seasons in our lives that are filled with stress, anxiety, sadness, guilt, disappointment, grief, and even hopelessness. It can be overwhelming, getting stuck in a place where we cannot see a way forward, unable to change unwanted and repeated behaviors, where no one seems to understand or able to help, feeling frustrated, unmotivated, discouraged, alone, and even ashamed. Or you may be going through transitions, significant changes in work, family, relationships, and are understandably overwhelmed with uncertainty and feelings of loss. If this has been your experience, there is help to walk towards healing and renewal.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
