Let's work together to identify the problematic thinking patterns that hold you back and develop tools and techniques to better manage stress, anxiety and sadness.
On the outside you’ve got it all together. You’re smart, successful and a support person for friends/family. But inside you’re feeling unhappy, overwhelmed, alone. Are you tired, frustrated, anxious, sad? Having a hard time falling asleep? Overthinking situations that happened or replaying things over and over in your head? Feeling burnt out, irritable, snappy or not like yourself? Struggling to make decisions? Exhausted by long “to-do” lists? Worried about the future or feeling “stuck?” Tried all the things you normally do to feel better, but they aren’t working? You aren’t alone! I’m here and I can help.

As a clinical psychologist the most important aspect of my work is to create an environment where clients feel safe to actively engage in the psychotherapy process. My approach is referred to as "integrationist;" incorporating aspects of psychodynamic, cognitive, and mindfulness therapy. I treat difficulties associated with mood, anxiety, trauma, addiction and ADHD, as well as more basic problems in living (i.e. relationship, employment). I welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, sexual preference and genders.

I work with men seeking meaningful change in their lives. My expertise includes helping clients alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, anger issues, grief, emotional numbness, and autism. Clients in my practice often reach out to improve their relationships with themselves and others. I don’t make false promises, and I’m straightforward about what therapy has to offer. Our histories are complex and shape who we are and the issues we face. In our work together, we will develop insight into how past experiences inform the present, we will overcome obstacles, and together we challenge unhelpful patterns that keep you stuck.

Even though you're a strong woman, self consciousness and fear keep getting in your damn way. You know you're held back by insecurity and resentment. You're distracted and overwhelmed at work and your social life is boring. This is not the life you imagined. You feel invisible and you're plowing through food and drink or shopping carts or dating apps and none of it does anything for your hunger. You're stressed and bored at the same time.

Finding a therapist that is the right fit for you is a crucial first step to a successful therapeutic experience. My approach to therapy is client-centered, meaning that I will work collaboratively with you to tune into your struggles, explore new and creative ways to cope, and strengthen your ability to manage your emotional experiences. I believe in using art in conjunction to traditional talk based therapy, as I have seen it provides an alternative way of expressing oneself for children, adolescents, young adults, geriatric clients, and on an inpatient psychiatric unit.

My ideal client is an individual, couple or family that is open to learning and growing from each other and committed to sticking with our sessions, even when they get difficult. Their needs will vary, as life shifts but the client will openly communicate with the clinician in order to continue moving forward. In terms of goals, the client and I will work together to form goals and adjust as needs change and accomplishments are made. My clients will be open to setting new goals as accomplishments are made and be dedicated despite any potential set backs.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
