I utilize multiple modalities and evidence based treatments such as CBT and DBT, helping people develop awareness and concrete skills/strategies to manage issues.
Making the decision to pursue therapy can be a complex one. Whether it's better understanding your relationship with substances, tolerating a difficult life situation, striving for balance, or if the goal is self-exploration, the journey of psychotherapy can be an opportunity to grow. Building strengths in a safe and supportive partnership can pave way towards living a more satisfying life.

Sometimes it may seem that ro mance and excitement has vanished from the relationship.
I am well trained and seasoned by lots of life experience - you can talk to me about anything. A commitment to having a great life, combined with an openness to the support of others, makes anything possible. Being a therapist is my second profession; taken up after working in the investment banking business for more than twenty years. I have raised a family in New York City and have four grown children. Couples therapy, anger managment, addictions, and making major life changes are some of the areas in which I collaborate with my clients.

My passion is helping people adjust to significant transitions in their lives. Often when we experience changes in our lives, we lose our sense of balance and identity. These changes may be caused by the death of a loved one, shifts in family roles, adjustment to an illness, or new de mands at school or work. In our work, you will gain a deeper understanding of how these transitions are impacting your mood, quality of life, and overall happiness. I work with clients to set and achieve realistic goals, while using one's values and strengths to help achieve these goals.

Sometimes, children, adolescents, or adults might need guidance in determining the educational direction that works best for them. They might be facing challenges with education, attention, and/or social skills without knowing why, or they might have been previously assessed for these kinds of challenges and desire an update on their progress and current needs.

Since you're here shuffling through all these names and faces it's probably safe to assume that something is not right. Curiosity about therapy often takes hold when a loss, a reversal or even a milestone has brought up emotions that can feel overwhelming, foreign, frightening or even shameful.

I treat anxiety and depression through examining deep-rooted inner conflicts/shame/guilt/childhood trauma and unconscious cognitive distortions while reshaping repetitive/obsessive coping mechanisms that manifest in perpetuating self esteem, career, and relationship difficulties.
I work with unique individuals who are seemingly successful and happy but deep inside feel lost, alone, even if they are in a relationship, and often feel like they don't belong or struggle to be present in life. With expertise gathered from years of experience across borders, time zones and cultures, I dive alongside men and wo men into the deep ocean of darkness— including all types of diversity, in-between/intersecting identities, worldwide travelers, high-achieving/performing and creative people. I am Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) certified and was formerly a clinical supervisor and psychologist at Johns Hopkins University.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
