Living in New York City can often feel like a balancing act with no end in sight. We aspire to have the best career, partner, family, and friends, all while silencing the part of us that questions our choices and whether we really measure up. As obligations continue to grow, it can be hard to find the energy and motivation to do the things we have to do without sacrificing the things we want to do. That’s where I come in. I can help you to define and break through the barriers that block you from being yourself. I strive to provide a culturally sensitive environment where you can explore their relationships, careers, and identity.

Let's brainstorm ways to help you regain control over your life and feel safe in your body again.

Navigating life can be overwhelming, leaving us feeling frustrated, confused, hopeless, and anxious. While the struggle is universal, it can deeply impact our sense of self, relationships, functionality, health, and well-being. As a mental health counselor Ahana believes that everyone has the innate capacity for growth and healing– we might, however, need some help in maximizing this potential. She thus sees her role as that of a catalyst, supporting you in the development of more authentic and satisfying ways of being in crucial aspects of life like relationships, work/school, and personal wellness.

I offer hypnotherapy to support women during transitional times, both personal and professional. Whether going through childbirth, a breakup, menopause, or a loss, my clients seek hypnotherapy to make changes that are difficult to achieve through other methods. Hypnosis helps reach processes that happen unconsciously and are often the strongest. Together, we will safely explore these unconscious processes in hypnosis to release habits that no longer serve you.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. The ideal client is open, courageous, and dedicated to their personal growth. They engage in therapy with honesty, ready to explore and understand their inner world. Embracing change with a patience and self-compassion, they can recognize that healing is a journey. Life is too precious to spend in bad relationships, holding grudges, letting trauma control us, or feeling anxious and angry. Together, we can create a supportive and safe space to work towards a healthier, happier self.

Purple Couch is nonjudgmental couch, where you can shut your personal filter off and talk about what is in your mind, because your worlds won’t be judged or disclosed to anyone. There is no norms or frames you have to fit in except your own worldview and value system. The purple couch accepts you to feel safe, secured, and understood. The color purple of the couch helps you to be in the middle between the extreme hot red and cold blue, and inspires the wisdom and rational vibes. When your life gets cloudy and start to feel dark because of clouds that’s fill out your life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
