My work is informed by a gentle, resiliency-based model called Somatic Experiencing®, though I utilize many other evidence-based methods.
Difficult life experiences, whether they happen once or are ongoing, can leave us feeling isolated and disconnected, both from others, and from ourselves. It can be hard to find pleasure in relationships, hobbies, families, or careers, or to even simply just "be" as we are. I view therapy first and foremost as a way to reconnect and be curious about ourselves; to find a place of safety, connectedness, and support from which we can begin to explore who we are, how we came to be, and where we want to go. As sessions progress, I aim to help you find resilience, movement, ease, stillness, or freedom, wherever you may need it.

I use somatic techniques, movement, meditation and breathwork to ground you to the present so that we can safely process and release trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, pain and grief that has been stored in the body.
Complex trauma can have a lasting impact on our daily lives. It effects our mood, health, relationships, functioning, thinking, behavior and decision making. Trauma can rob us of joy, connection and convince us that we are undeserving or unworthy of love, care and compassion. In our work together, we will unlock your innate ability to heal, grow and transcend beyond the experiences that have burdened you. You deserve to feel safe, heard, seen and supported. Therapy is an opportunity to come home to yourself, recover and reclaim your life. It would be an honor to walk along side you on that journey.

I believe in going beyond talk therapy and incorporate mind/body (aka somatic) techniques that aim to gently explore symptoms, often resulting in a more regulated nervous system, increased clarity, shifts in perspective and access to one's inner resources and inherent power.
There's nothing wrong with you. You’re not broken, though I honor if you feel this way. I am passionate about guiding clients to restore their sense of wholeness by releasing the painful emotions/beliefs (some which are subconscious) that are contributing to issues such as anxiety/phobias, depression, harmful and limiting patterns/behaviors, emotional dysregulation, PTSD, feeling stuck/lost, low self-esteem, addiction, chronic pain/illness, etc etc.

Working actively and collaboratively, my treatment orientation incorporates intensive training in Gestalt Therapy (a holistic, present-centered, and relationship-focused approach), Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy (a movement-based approach), and Contemplative Psychotherapy, which integrates mindfulness and compassion practices from Buddhist psychology.
My approach to supporting others to heal, grow, and better cope with life challenges and transitions incorporates awareness-building, cultivating acceptance and compassion, and providing a space that invites the possibility of exploring new ways of being. These elements empower individuals to take ownership of how they choose to create their lives and to find greater wellbeing and fulfillment. We often do not realize that the very habits and behaviors that cause us to feel stuck or block us from having what we want were necessary tools for survival at some point in our lives. Understanding such patterns is an important step.

I am trained in AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) and draw inspiration from IFS (Internal Family Systems) and SE (Somatic Experiencing).
Are you feeling disconnected? Are you looking to improve your mood day to day? Do you have pain from your past that you'd like to work on? Working through these things in therapy can be incredibly transformative and rewarding, and they can also take a long time. It is important to find someone who meets you where you are at and that you feel connected to them. I am committed to providing a warm, accepting presence so that you can feel inspired to take risks and explore your inner world.

I am trained in Focusing Oriented Therapy (FOT) which is a somatic approach that helps us listen to ourselves and move forward in an authentic way.
Making change takes intention and courage. Finding meaning in everyday life and living in a way that we yearn to is no small task! I work with adults who wish to create change and feel happier in their lives. This could mean issues surrounding transition into adulthood, dating and relationships, substance use, school and professional goals, life transitions, work/family balance, parenting, long term relationships with partners. I have expertise in supporting family members of a loved one struggling with addiction. I also have an interest in family members touched by adoption.

I've been trained in numerous evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, TF-CBT, Somatic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Internal Family Systems, and have extensive experience working with individuals coping with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and identity formation.
I view therapy as a laboratory for fostering meaningful change and self-discovery. I practice from an integrative perspective, focusing on creating a healing and empathetic relationship that incorporates a range of evidence-based modalities to move towards a more fulfilling, resilient, and harmonious life. I’m particularly drawn to working within the Internal Family Systems model, an attachment-based modality that uplifts the complexity and wisdom of our internal worlds and strengthens our inherent capacity to heal burdened parts of our systems and develop compassionate, strengths-based relationships with ourselves and others.

I use elements of many different modalities, including somatic based interventions.
I believe the relationship between a client and therapist is sacred. I think therapy is a reciprocal process, and I have learned a great deal of life lessons from my clients. I customize my approach based on my client's needs, values, and/or willingness to gently explore a new framework. There are benefits to talk therapy and immense benefits to somatic based practices. I invite my clients to tune in to the ways their bodies communicate with them on a daily basis and to use that information to improve their relationships with themselves and others.

With my playful and humorous personality, I conceptualize in a psychodynamic and somatic-focused approach.
I offer a warm, empathetic, judgment-free, and safe space for adults and couples. This space will invite you to explore all parts of yourself and find more compassion and curiosity towards the parts you struggle to connect with. I believe that individual challenges are unique to your experiences, circumstances, cultural/spiritual beliefs, and personal identity. I find that the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. With this uniquely beautiful relationship, I believe the path to healing is more accessible.

I approach therapy from a holistic perspective that honors all aspects of a person as an integrated whole, using body-based somatic psychotherapy and mindfulness techniques at the core of my practice. When we begin to slow down and explore our mind-body experience with curiosity and care, we can start to notice and transform old wounds and patterns that are interfering with our ability to live a full life of ease, passion and connection. I come from a place of co-creating a journey with you that deeply honors the wisdom and strengths you already carry, while also working with you to develop new resources to help address your needs.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
