Do you feel like you’ve lost sense of who you are or want to be? Does daily life sometimes feel relentless? Have anxiety, depression, stress and life changes drained you of your ability to fully connect with yourself, your loved ones, your passions and goals? We all get caught up in life, and the patterns we’re used to, and change can feel so unattainable. Sometimes you feel so stuck in how things have always been, have always felt, and how you “should” be - that you aren't sure how to even start making changes. I can help you unpack some of the weight you're carrying, so you can start to work toward a more satisfying life.

The way in which people navigate the world is through experience. Many of us have had difficult experiences at different times in our lives which have contributed to the way in which we view the world and more importantly, ourselves. As such, most people carry negative views or beliefs about themselves that are simply not true. Until those beliefs are challenged in an effort to change them, we more often than not, experience emotional or psychological discomfort in many forms. Therapy is a space that serves to remind each individual of their ability to positively impact their lives by cultivating a more accepting view of themselves.

Welcome! I believe that counseling is an exploration of our personal lives, and can lead to a discovery of the best versions of ourselves. I believe that a therapist should be there as an empathic person who can assist you in understanding why you are currently "stuck" and help you explore your options for a more comfortable life. Typically, when we are in a place where we feel emotionally paralyzed, we are stuck feeling helpless. The hope is that utilizing therapy can help you get "your voice back" and feel empowered again.

The healing process is vulnerable and courageous. Whether you seek healing for yourself or your child, a safe holding space that provides supportive containment and compassion is so vital. I embrace each individual with the knowledge that one is the expert of their own lives. My role is to provide a space to access deeper wisdom and personal expression. I began my career in early childhood education and have brought my knowledge of early childhood development into my work as a therapist, with a focus on attachment, sensory processing and the nervous system constantly informing my work.

I have been working with children and their families for over 15 years in settings such as hospitals, schools, mental health clinics and client's homes. I have extensive experience treating children with anxiety and depression, behavioral and anger management issues, ADHD, and oppositional defiance disorder. I have supported families through various stages of the divorce process and loss of a family member. I believe that a child is successful in therapy when the whole family is supportive and involved and I therefore have strong communication with a child's parents. I follow a Cognitive Behavioral and strengths based approach.

You may be feeling stuck, lost, anxious, confused, sad, or it’s just harder to cope. Uncertainties in the world or our community can often exacerbate our distress. While each of us has a natural capacity to heal, my role is to help you identify and remove the obstacles that stand in the way of your health, coping, growth and well-being. I strive to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to help with a range of concerns like anxiety, depression, PTSD, or addiction. I also specialize in relationship issues and issues related to career as I have a background in Employee Assistance and Management Consultation.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
