We'll work eclectically, utilizing approaches such as Integrative/Holistic, Humanistic, CBT, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based CT, and others to help you manifest the changes you desire.
In the blink of an eye, the world has changed overnight. You may be struggling with insomnia or moods that upset you and that are damaging your intimate, family, and peer relationships. Recent changes in society and your living situation may have triggered life transitions which have sorely stretched your ability to cope. You may feel stuck in a repetitive cycle, making the same mistakes over and over without understanding why and feeling powerless to make productive and positive changes. Maybe you feel traumatized or that choice has been taken from you and you are grasping at regaining some semblance of normalcy in your life.

It’s time consuming to sort through profiles; and for that I am so glad you’ve found your way here. I can be there to support you where you’re at right now. Therapy can feel overwhelming; maybe you've asked- where do I start? That is super common! Therapy is more than talking; it’s a safe, healing space filled with both laughter and tears. It’s all welcome and all part of the process. I enjoy working with individuals who may be navigating difficult relationships—whether that be family, romantic or something else! Navigating conflict or life transitions can be tough on our own; at times we just need a little extra support.

Sometimes we find ourselves overwhelmed with personal expectations at school, work, and in relationships. We may develop a fear of making mistakes or decisions, worry about being disliked, have guilt for taking rest from productivity and feel not good enough compared to our peers. Unresolved relationship traumas could be underneath these problems. If it feels like too much to work through on your own, that's okay we all need to ask for help when feeling stuck. I know you have the ability to make changes as you have already started by looking for support!

Life can be difficult. There’s no denying this. And, at times, life can seem even more difficult. Have you been feeling sad, stressed, worried, confused, frustrated, angry, or at a bit of a loss? Perhaps you’ve experienced, or are facing, a transition in life (e.g., a break-up, divorce, loss of a loved one, medical challenge, retirement, engagement, marriage, etc.) that is leaving you feeling any number of ways. Or maybe you're feeling a certain way and don't know why. If so, you're likely looking to find some peace, clarity, understanding, and support so you can live a happier, healthier, and more authentic life.

Anxiety, depression, guilt, childhood trauma, unresolved experiences of loss, abandonment, or betrayal, are only a few possible explanations for what may stand in your way of achieving a sense of self-fulfillment, satisfying relationships, and a sense of security. Through psychotherapy, you can gain a better understanding of the underlying issues which compromise your ability to get what you need and optimally use your potential. These issues can be effectively worked through to ease their grip over your emotional well being and enable you to gain better control over your life by making better choices.

Life can be hard but it can also be beautiful. I utilize a compassionate and integrative approach to psychotherapy. I seek to help clients generate positive change in their lives and am a believer in the power of our thoughts and current narrative, the mind-body connection, and that our environment and life experiences greatly impact our lives. I believe that through developing self-awareness we can better understand who we are and what holds us back and by practicing self-compassion and acceptance we can navigate our path forward.

Individuals often decide to begin counseling when problems arise in their life; I believe that counseling can be effective at any point in a person’s life. Counseling is an opportunity to focus on your emotional and mental health while also discovering your authentic self. I bring a wide variety of experiences which have greatly influenced my style and approach, including holding a NYS School Counseling Certification and working as a mental health counselor on a college campus. I often utilize a holistic, client-centered, strengths-based approach and view the process of therapy as a collaboration between client and therapist.

My approach to psychotherapy is cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic.
Have recent events shaken the foundation of your mental health? Have you found yourself suffering loss, reevaluating priorities, or questioning things you previously took for granted? Have you experienced too many changes too quickly, causing you to lose your mental equilibrium? If now feels like the right time to begin psychotherapy, I would welcome the opportunity to work with you. I will use my education, training and life experience in a therapeutic relationship to help you navigate the challenges of being a thinking and feeling person in an uncertain world.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy with children and adolescents and psychodynamic techniques/cognitive skills with adults and couples.
My ideal client is one who is motivated to change. I deal with school related issues, family issues, individual issues and marital issues. My goal is to get clients to understand the consequences of their behavior and to learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings appropriately. I try to get them to develop insight into their behaviors along with being able to develop skills to work on stressors when they are not in the therapy sessions. I deal with mood disorders including depression, anxiety disorders and anger management issues.

I create a nonjudgmental, safe space for my patients to explore their challenges. I approach my work with you through a trauma-focused lens and acknowledge how emotion is central to human experience. I draw from relational and psychodynamic approaches, focusing on how our past pains can influence our present patterns and cycles. Through deep listening, I am able to guide you through your own journey of self-awareness and reflection. I completed my education in Mental Health Counseling at the University at Albany, where I also served as a peer assistant and training instructor for a mental health and crisis hotline.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
