I am experienced in working with the LGBTQ population, Jewish issues, women's issues, health concerns, aging, life changes, anxiety, relationship discord, PTSD and depression.
Therapy is a collaborative process. I strive to create a warm and supportive therapeutic environment where one can feel safe to explore issues and concerns that impact on one's wellbeing. As a psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience, I have come to appreciate that psychotherapy works because of the unique relationship that develops between the therapist and client. During the course of my career, in addition to my private practice, I worked in hospitals and mental health clinic settings.

The relationship you have with your therapist is a vehicle for change; I am unwavering in my persistence to help and to treat people with respect. I will ask you questions that make you think and learn about yourself, and I will help you accept what you discover. I aim to create a safe space in my office and to help you find safety in your life. I can help you navigate the relationships in your life and provide you with techniques that facilitate emotional growth. I dismantle the thoughts that maintain depression and anxiety and may help you reduce the potency of, if not diminish the traumas that are keeping you stuck.

For many couples, I'm the last stop. They've been to so many therapists already that they wonder, "Why would you be any different?" It's simple: I've been there, done that. In addition to my extensive training, I understand firsthand what you're going through - whether that's dating life, an engagement, a brand new marriage, a struggling marriage, a divorce, or blending families. I know what it takes to get through it and come out stronger on the other side. And I'm proud to say I have an amazing success rate with my clients.

Navigating life’s journey can be overwhelming and stressful at times, interfering with our peace of mind. I help clients access their inner strength and resources, the keys to ultimate healing. As an experienced therapist, I see every day that just as individuals are unique, life situations and how we experience them are as well. I help empower clients to overcome challenges including anxiety, depression, parenting and relationship issues, trauma, and low self-esteem in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Additionally, I work to understand how these challenges affect each client in order to determine the best therapeutic approach.

Are there aspects of your life that you are unhappy with? Are you feeling anxious, struggling to follow your dreams or having difficulties in your relationships with others? Are you struggling with the impact of past traumatic experiences? If so, therapy can be helpful to you! My approach centers on fostering connection and healing. I prioritize a trauma-informed perspective, shifting the question from 'what's wrong with you?' to 'what happened to you?'. This approach is particularly empowering for trauma survivors, who may have received multiple diagnoses in the past.

My focus is on maternal/perinatal support, couples counseling, and therapy for parents and teenagers. As we journey through life, we often encounter difficult experiences that leave us feeling stuck in stress, resentment, regret and confusion. Couples come to therapy for support due to miscommunication and lack of connection & security. Families struggle with their child's identity shifts and mood problems. Teens often feel misunderstood. New mothers may experience birth trauma, postpartum anxiety or depression. In this day and age it is common to feel isolated and unsupported, and asking for help is risky and takes courage.

I believe that therapy is an opportunity for people to get the most out of life. It is a reflection of one’s courage to face familial changes, life stressors and significant emotional experiences. An overarching goal of my practice is to utilize one’s talents, strengths, creativity, wisdom and optimism to help individuals regain control of their complicated lives. As such, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic approaches. I find that Psychodynamic Therapy can be particularly beneficial for those who have lost meaning in their lives or have difficulty forming or maintaining relationships.

Finding success in our careers can sometimes cause us to lose sight of the things that help us stay in balance. Before we know it, parts of our lives feel out of alignment. Perhaps you start to feel "on-edge," always waiting for "the other shoe to drop." Perhaps you forget to breathe, your muscles feel too tight, or sleeping becomes a challenge. Maybe relationships feels challenging and it's hard to "turn off." You may even begin to believe the biggest lie of them all; that you can't have career success and also be well. We all have the power to heal ourselves. Therapy helps us access that ability.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
