For people who have experienced developmental/complex trauma, life can be incredibly painful with many different issues and symptoms that can feel so overwhelming. In therapy, we can help you access and work through the underlying wounding that has lead to the ways you have learned to protect yourself. I believe that at each person's core lays the capacity for deep healing and connection, and it is within the context of safe relationships that we can access that I believe that the therapeutic relationship serves as a sacred space where individuals can feel seen, heard, and valued without judgment.

Your child is not acting herself. She was once so vibrant, bursting with personality and excitement for life. But now she complains of stomach aches and doesn’t want to go to school. She is nervous about so many things. You have tried to understand your child. You listen, validate, and explain to her why there is no need to worry. But you feel that the problem is growing instead of dying away. You feel stuck. Where is the way out? How can you bring the child you know, back?

Are there aspects of your life that you are unhappy with? Are you feeling anxious, struggling to follow your dreams or having difficulties in your relationships with others? Are you struggling with the impact of past traumatic experiences? If so, therapy can be helpful to you! My approach centers on fostering connection and healing. I prioritize a trauma-informed perspective, shifting the question from 'what's wrong with you?' to 'what happened to you?'. This approach is particularly empowering for trauma survivors, who may have received multiple diagnoses in the past.

Children and families are the focus of my life’s work. I love the energy that children and teenagers bring to the world! Struggling families may lose sight of the inherent goodness in their children when life gets overwhelming. It’s difficult when your child is acting out or dealing with a mental illness. You may be overwhelmed by the impact of abuse, neglect or the ramifications of divorce. Your child may be experiencing a specific trauma or be the victim of multiple traumas. Whatever is bothering you, your child and your family can be helped. Don’t give up hope!

The healing process is vulnerable and courageous. Whether you seek healing for yourself or your child, a safe holding space that provides supportive containment and compassion is so vital. I embrace each individual with the knowledge that one is the expert of their own lives. My role is to provide a space to access deeper wisdom and personal expression. I began my career in early childhood education and have brought my knowledge of early childhood development into my work as a therapist, with a focus on attachment, sensory processing and the nervous system constantly informing my work.

I often integrate EMDR, Sandplay, and mindfulness based practices in my work.
Sometimes the most difficult step in the healing journey is the very first one: reaching out. If you're feeling lost, stuck, or off-course, I’m glad you reached me and I’m here to help. I'm an NYC-based therapist offering personalized treatment in life transitions, reprocessing trauma, family dynamics, and codependency and relationship issues. My practice focuses on building trust and safety so you can share and explore your own unique experience. I also work to understand how cultural, societal, and systemic pressures can impact our relationship to ourselves and others.

Sandplay Therapists

What problems are best treated with sandplay therapy?

Research has examined this therapy’s utility in young people and found positive results. It has been shown to be useful for those who suffer from autism, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, and or aggressive behavior. Children who have suffered abuse, neglect, or trauma have also seen improvement through this therapy. Abused children are often fearful and anxious about their safety, making verbal communication more difficult.

Is sandplay therapy suitable for children and teenagers?

Children and adolescents are good candidates for sandplay therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts, let alone the emotions they are experiencing. Through this play therapy, they will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Is sandplay suitable for adults?

This type of therapy can be useful for adults who have difficulties expressing themselves. People who have suffered neurological changes after a brain injury or because of a traumatic event might be good candidates for this therapy. In fact, anything that has had an effect on the brain, such as substance abuse, can make non-verbal sandplay a valuable option.

Does sandplay therapy work?

There have been studies on the effectiveness of sandplay therapy, and it appears to improve difficult behaviors in children. It may also enhance self-esteem and lessen feelings of physical anxiety as well as hypersensitivity. This type of therapy is based on non-verbal communication and may feel less threatening to the individual.
