I combine Psychodynamic principles with Strengths Based therapy, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you attain emotional well-being, improve your interpersonal relationships, and develop coping skills.
Welcome! Step 1 is finding the right therapist for you; so just reach out, talk...and then let your gut decide. My job is to provide a safe space for you to be fully heard and supported, no matter what you are facing. Anxious? Depressed? Lost? Grieving? Having turmoil in your relationship(s) or with family? I can help you to organize your thoughts + feelings so you can better understand and cope with what is happening. We will untangle the knots, identify repeating patterns and make vital connections between your past and how you function today. I believe therapy is a journey- not just for healing, but for really knowing oneself.

Practicing mindfulness as well as exercise is a key component to wellness.
My approach to treatment is to focus on the person and where they are currently struggling. It is important for everyone to have an outlet and a way to engage in daily self care and coping skills. Recognizing triggers and building boundaries are essential for our wellness. I understand that deciding to come to therapy is a huge decision and a choice that is not always easy.

I address low self-esteem, shame, compulsivity, loneliness, anxiety, PTSD, Asian American issues, and the search for meaning and purpose through Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Anxiety Reduction, attachment theory, and harm reduction to promote growth and positive change.
If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, burnout, and increased reliance on substances to cope with uncertainty and confusion, you aren't alone. The Covid pandemic took the world by surprise and left us feeling unsafe and uncertain. Ever since, it's been crisis after crisis from climate change, deep-seated political divisions, and the threat of violence in our city and on a global scale. Talking about what's difficult to articulate is therapeutic. If you find yourself without the anchor of personal values and purpose, life can feel adrift and unmoored. I am here to help you make sense of it.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
