If you're finding it difficult to cope with grief, I'm here to guide you through these emotions and help you discover a way forward. I'm deeply committed to reshaping how we perceive grief—not as a condition to be treated, but as a personal, ongoing journey that is unique to each individual and doesn’t adhere to a set timeline. My approach is mindful and collaborative, supporting clients as they navigate the complex emotions and reactions that accompany grief and loss. I view each person holistically, considering emotional, physical, cognitive, and, when applicable, spiritual aspects throughout the healing process.

Entering into the therapeutic process is the best investment we can make in ourselves. I have rich and varied experience working with clients in crisis - experiencing challenges with relationships, self-image, depression, anxiety, uncontrolled mood changes, and past trauma. I work primarily with individuals, couples and families seeking to enhance their quality of life through the guided process of self-exploration, reflection and growth. I have a natural penchant for building relationships and a practical action-oriented approach.

Hi! I'm Neli Betancourt-Rodriguez. I'm a Christian bilingual (Spanish/English) licensed trauma therapist in New York City. Whatever brought you here, I'm so glad you're here. Your story deserves to be heard, uncovered, and transformed into purpose. Your life matters. My hope is to walk alongside you in the aftermath of what can feel like the weight of the world. Sometimes, that aftermath looks like learning to trust again after abuse, or to feel joy after years of depression and sadness, or to unlearn patterns that no longer serve you. It may be hard to believe freedom is accessible. But here, I know it's possible. . .

Together, we can navigate the art studio to express conflicted emotions, practice mindfulness, reflect and create insight into your inner world. I provide an integrative approach to therapy that marries both art therapy and traditional psychotherapy. No experience using art materials is needed. Here we can traverse the challenges of daily life, promote positive change, increase self-esteem, destress and cultivate a creative outlet to process difficult experiences.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
