As a therapist I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Together, we will work on finding all of the “ingredients” to make the sweet lemonade to enjoy! Life can be extremely hard at times. I believe it is important to acknowledge the feelings we feel and not be ashamed. It is okay to cry, be sad, angry, scared, etc. Together, we can determine the next steps so those feelings don’t need to stay long. Therapy will provide you with new perspectives and tools in your toolbox, so you can enjoy your lemonade even on the gloomy days.

Therapy works best with clients that are willing to put in the work to make meaningful change. Sessions are a place for you to discuss your feelings, experiences and thoughts to a third party in a judgement free place. Session with me will allow you to have the time for self-exploration while learning self care and coping skills.

We have both male and female clinicians. Don't hesitate to ask! I believe being compassionate, open-minded, and culturally competent allows me to understand the stressors in a person's day-to-day life. I have an ample amount of experience with children and adolescents, as well as families, individuals, and couples. Yes, this process will take work, but I know that together, you can make it through anything whether it be anxiety, depression, or self-esteem. I use an eclectic approach to counseling which utilizes various theories and techniques. If something doesn't work for you, we will collaborate to find something that does.

People worry every day. Some worriers "worry all their lives." Excessive, non-productive WORRY may lead to symptoms seen in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), irritability and depression. There may be misguided behavioral strategies or unresolved experiences that prevent more productive use of worry and subsequent self-esteem enhancement. I will help you understand your worrying behavior, learn about how to live with uncertainty and consider strategies and new behaviors you have not yet thought about. I pride myself in my ability to develop good working relationships with my clients, a crucial part of therapy.

No one goes through life without facing stressors or hardships, but with the right help, clients can develop and learn the skills they need to deal with these stressors and hardships successfully. As a therapist, my goal is to come into a client’s life and help them do the work to make their lives easier, and their stressors seem more manageable. When a client reaches out for therapy, they are typically wanting to improve some aspect of their life, or make a positive change. It is always my priority to make sure my clients leave treatment feeling as though they are making progress towards a goal.

Navigating life can be difficult, but more so if you have anxiety and depression or have faced trauma or loss. These feelings can cause you to feel overwhelmed and out of control. There are times in everyone's life when they can benefit from support, guidance and help in understanding why past coping skills may no longer be helpful. Through a non-judgement, supportive environment, I work with my clients to identify strengths, validate truths and explore patterns and beliefs that may no longer be helpful in attaining their goals. Virtual sessions are offered to make it easy to connect in the comfort of your home.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists

Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.

How long does PCIT last?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.

Can PCIT be done online?

PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.

Does PCIT help parents?

In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
