Anxiety and stress are normal reactions to life's challenges. Anxiety can help us focus on solving problems or achieving success. But when anxiety begins to spiral and take over, it can be paralyzing, negatively affecting our relationships, school/career performance and mental and physical health. If you are experiencing chronic worry, panic, obsessive fears, social anxiety, stress at work/school, or marital difficulties, I can help by teaching you proven strategies to conquer your symptoms by changing negative thoughts and unhelpful behaviors. You will learn more effective coping techniques, gain back control and focus more on living a productive, happier life.

Using an integrative approach, I address a wide range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, OCD, and self-esteem with a specialization in trauma and interpersonal or relational issues.
Therapy is a gift. It is an opportunity to be seen, heard, understood, and supported in ways that you might not be. As a person-centered therapist, I don’t find success in doing something for the client, but rather in being someone for the client. Being a multicultural counselor, I understand the importance of viewing someone as a whole individual, as opposed to what is presented symptomatically. Through an integrative analytic and cognitive-behavioral approach, I empower clients to gain insight and overcome life’s stressors and hardships. Healing is a journey, let’s go through it together.

Being human is hard. In addition to daily challenges, many of us weren’t shown how to feel and express our emotions, or how to communicate effectively with others. We may not have learned what healthy love looks and feels like, or how to care for and accept ourselves—because often, our caregivers hadn’t learned how to either. As a result, we often find ourselves experiencing painful emotions such as shame, anger, longing, worry, or hopelessness. Therapy is an opportunity to explore our experiences with curiosity and kindness, allowing us to gain insight into, make meaning of, and heal from the burdens we carry.

Anxiety is an experience that can make us feel isolated and misunderstood. When other's advice seems to be to try harder or push through, we can feel as though we are doing something wrong. Chronic worry or phobias can divide us from the things we most want to accomplish and take the joy out of what we most value. My role in therapy is to provide you with guidance, warmth, and practical, realistic tools towards genuine understanding. Therapy is a place to lean in and face challenges in a safe environment.

Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. It teaches the brain to improve attention, mood, behavior, cognition, and more. In simple terms, neurofeedback is positive reinforcement for the brain. We measure brain activity and teach the brain to make healthier patterns. Once these healthier brain patterns are learned the effects of neurofeedback tend to hold. Neurofeedback initiates self-regulation and enhances relaxation and cognition, all necessary components of optimal brain function. Neurofeedback can work on anyone, no matter the age. We treat a variety of conditions including ADHD, anxiety, brain injury, depression, insomnia, migraines, and more!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
