As a 40-something with 15+ years of clinical experience in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have found that life is a journey of learning filled with twists and turns, many of which are beyond our power and control. It seems that when we are faced with the choices that naturally proceed from this journey, often we choose something not because it aligns with our highest value, but because it protects our unspoken vulnerabilities. If our greatest loyalty lies with our greatest fear or pain, then that fear or pain holds the potential to be either the cage that imprisons us or the opportunity that grows us to a new level of development.

Everyone is unique and special in their own way, so why should therapy be any different? I've worked with a variety of cultures, ethnicities, diagnosis and age range and feel its most appropriate to tailor my approach to each individual. I have an eclectic array of theories and approaches that I utilize during my time with individuals and find that one thing holds true; having a judgement free safe space that focuses on the needs of the client is what works best.

Do you ever feel irrelevant or disconnected from others you care about? Do you feel overwhelmed with too much to do, or not involved enough with things you enjoy doing? Do you ever feel isolated or empty? Do you stay in relationships too long or not long enough? Do you have difficulty asking for what you want or what you need? Do you ever feel like you are constantly getting more than you are getting? Do you want to make some changes but feel stuck? "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced". James Baldwin

Now accepting new clients for Sunday availability! Are you zoning out on this page right now hoping the answers to your problems will magically materialize? Scrolling on here in the late hours of the evening because your mind just won’t stop racing? (Caught ya, but you’ve come to the right place.) You’ve been dealing with a lot that life has been throwing at you lately and it’s hard to just keep up, let alone feel like yourself. You’re tired of keeping it all locked up in your head, putting on a fake smile for the people in your life day in and day out while you’re ready to explode from the pressure inside.

(Accepting New Clients) In therapy we will build upon your own inner strength and authentic self to process and heal pain or psychological injuries that may be getting in the way of living a healthy, integrated and fulfilling life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process: we will work together to navigate and explore any problems or patterns in your life that may be contributing to the challenges that you face. I am not a therapist that will tell you what to do, but I will help you explore all the parts that make up YOU, including the parts of you that are resilient and know the way forward.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for 40 years. Throughout all of my years in practice, I have been amazed by the resilience of the human spirit. I work with clients who have endured and survived traumatic histories or devastating losses, and are now presenting with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Complex PTSD. Recovery from trauma is hard work, but with support, effective therapeutic tools, and the commitment to recover, I believe healing is possible.

Perhaps you are looking for a fulfilling life, but you’re struggling with feeling broken or incomplete because you aren't a mother. Maybe you’re bogged down with the weight of society's pressure to have children. You crave purpose and connection with others, but maybe you struggle to express your pain. You are tired of receiving unsolicited advice and questions about your reproductive system. This leaves you wondering: Is there life beyond motherhood?

Navigating life transitions can be overwhelming, especially when paired with anxiety, depression, or relational challenges. I often work with clients facing challenges related to life transitions, such as starting a new job, moving to a new city, or experiencing shifts in relationships. It can be beneficial to find clarity, build healthier coping mechanisms, and foster stronger, more fulfilling connections with others. For many clients, understanding the root of their emotions and behaviors can be helpful in working toward greater emotional stability and personal growth.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
