I am a LCMHC in New York and a Canadian registered psychotherapist of Ontario. My job is to interpret and apply current theory and empirically validated treatments in an ethical manner with the goal of relieving your distress. I believe when working with clients, that it is important to attend to the affect, cognition, and behavior of the individual to identify any characteristics of psychopathology. The goal of therapy is to help you express, alter, and understand what is causing your distress. Many considerations are weighed to formulate your treatment plan based on your clinical needs.

Alongside utilizing art psychotherapy, I integrate modalities such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic therapy, and mindfulness-based practices.
I help children, teens, and young adults to feel empowered and create balance in their everyday lives. Struggling with trauma, transitions, or overwhelming emotions can feel depleting. A combination of art psychotherapy incorporating various treatment approaches may offer you the tools needed to tackle the obstacles you are facing in your life. I view the dynamics of our therapeutic relationship as if we were driving in a car together. You are ultimately the driver- hitting the brakes, pressing on the gas, changing direction of the steering wheel, and most importantly in control of the car.

It can be hard to be a person in the world sometimes, especially if you have experienced loss, survived trauma or learned that something terrible will happen if you are not "perfect." Despite being “put together” on the outside, you find yourself spending so much energy trying to stay that way that you are burning out. You want to feel better but you are getting so overwhelmed that you shut down before you even know where to start. Many of my people have these concerns when we first meet but together we are able to practice actionable steps to access joy and security in the present and reconnect with hope for the future.

Do you feel stuck and helpless, like you're never going to be able to move on from your trauma? Have you felt afraid of the future or felt something terrible would happen? Do you have nightmares or intrusive thoughts about your past trauma? Do you feel disconnected from your body or numbed out from your emotions? You’ve been trying traditional ways to heal but regular talk therapy and/or doing it on your own (DIY) can make you feel more hopeless, helpless, stuck, lonely, angry, and resentful. It’s not your fault. The traditional methods are not designed to help you fully heal.

I specialize in helping clients struggling with depression, anxiety, obsessive thought patterns, addiction recovery, relationship conflicts, and trauma.
Often we find ourselves waiting. Waiting to be well, to be cared for, and to care for ourselves. The challenges we face, however big or small, are often opportunities to form a deeper connection to the things we want. Psychotherapy offers an experience to create an open space so that you can begin to explore and practice the thoughts, behaviors, and feelings that we seek to experience when working on our goals.

My approach is holistic, integrative, and trauma informed, combining art therapy and talk therapy with EMDR, mindfulness, and somatic practices.
Slowing down is hard when our lives are busy, and we feel out of balance—it can feel like there is very little time to work on ourselves.  Therapy is about creating space for positive change. When we do manage to slow down and make room for ourselves, we can grow and create lasting adjustments that make our lives more balanced.  Entering therapy provides that space and opportunity. I work collaboratively with my clients, providing a safe and non-judgmental space to explore issues, gain perspective, develop new and creative coping skills, and strengthen one’s relationship with themselves and with others.

As a contemplative psychotherapist, I work to help my clients find balance by teaching mindfulness practice to aid in emotional regulation which is often the cause of anxiety and depression; deconstructing and integrating trauma; identifying often unconscious patterns which contribute to cyclic suffering; teaching skills to replace harmful coping behavior.
The foundation of my work as a therapist is the knowledge that attunement in a therapeutic relationship helps people make lasting positive changes in their lives. We are all entitled to happiness, and to live with meaning and purpose. I work with my clients in partnership as we define personal strengths and rediscover their authentic Self. My clients are people who have struggled with a myriad of challenges. My philosophy is that these challenges do not define who you are. I do not treat depression or anxiety. I work with people who struggle with relational patterns that result in depression and anxiety, and want to change.

My work and research on mindful resonance in the healing of trauma has been published.
I have a very integrative practice, using EMDR with Mindful Awareness in the treatment of trauma. Whether you suffer with symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety, or poor self esteem, the EMDR process will help you to go beyond alleviating symptoms and help you to find a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction in the direction of your life. As part of an integrative wellness center, I teach meditation as well as provide psychotherapy. As consciousness evolves and healing occurs, I will help you see how the crisis becomes a doorway for growth beyond what you could have imagined.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
