My treatment approach is fundamentally based on Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytical Modalities, Attachment Disorders, and Relational Trauma with a strong focus on treating survivors of childhood trauma and maternal emotional neglect, grief, sexual abuse, anxiety and depression.
I believe that there are different pathways to helping clients reach their established goals. My primary focus is to establish a strong and empathic therapeutic relationship, as well as a secure base to help you navigate the journey of exploring and working through the root cause of your pain or presenting symptoms. As a psychotherapist, I have experience working with individuals, adolescents, and families with histories of severe emotional disorders, complex trauma, depression and anxiety.

Finding a therapist today is hard. You may have a hundred questions. Do they have availability? Do they take my insurance? Will I and/or my child click with them? Therapists are not one size fits all. Sometimes you have to shop around a little bit. I want to make this as easy as possible for you, because asking for help should not be hard. My main goal is to help you as much as I can, and to create a non-judgmental space where you can speak freely about your life and any challenges you are facing. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns, and I will help in any way I can, whether I am the therapist for you or not!

Sometimes all that stands in the way of your happiness and peace of mind is your own thoughts. It's remarkable how our thoughts work against us creating anxiety, depression, and an overall feeling of being trapped or stuck. The good news is that having the happiness you want and deserve is actually within your control. Whether it is getting rid of your fear, understanding why you are so sad, dreaming of a healthier relationship, or just trying to figure out what will actually make you happy, I am here to help you learn how to take control of your life.

Sometimes all that stands in the way of your happiness and peace of mind is the way you think about things. It's remarkable how our own thoughts can work against us creating anxiety, depression and an overall feeling of being trapped or stuck. There is great relief in the realization that the happiness you truly want and deserve is actually within your control! Whether your goal is diminishing your fears, gaining a better understanding of why you feel so sad, finally having the healthy relationship you have been yearning for, reducing stress, finding balance, or finally being able to answer that question, "What will make me happy?"

I am culturally aware and sensitive to the unique backgrounds, customs, and worldviews of my clients. I am a compassionate therapist who appreciates working side by side with my clients on their therapeutic journey. I utilize a multimodal approach to treatment as I recognize that there is no one approach that applies to all situations. I enjoy working with individuals and couples across the life cycle: young adults dealing with anxiety, self-esteem issues or relationship stress in these uncertain times; couples long married and looking to enhance their relationship; and 'baby boomers' facing their own transitions while being 'sandwiched' between the needs of adult children and aging parents. I believe in our capacity for personal growth individually and in our closest relationships throughout life. In a safe, confidential environment you are invited to engage in the empowering process of therapy. My therapeutic style is warm, empathic and interactive.

Relationships are at the core of our being. They enrich our daily lives, fuel new experiences, and are one of the most important ways we come to know ourselves. All of us feel the need to belong and connect with others; we strive to be accepted in ways that feel genuine, meaningful and satisfying. Unhealthy relationships can take their toll, but good relationships improve all aspects of life, strengthening health, mind, and connections with others. However, all relationships can fall off track and go through periods of conflict, or be impacted by trauma, which may lead us to feel frustrated, stuck, dissatisfied, and/or frightened.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
