Feeling stuck or constantly stressed takes an enormous toll on one’s body. It leaves you exhausted, frustrated, and extremely overwhelmed. The activities you do everyday become interrupted and difficult to complete. If these feelings resonate with you, it’s time to create alternative ways to bring balance into your lifestyle. Music therapy can assist in increasing the awareness of your mind body connection and help you live the life you deserve.

Research has shown that the primary factors involved in change in a therapeutic setting are the clients' internal strengths. The second most important factor is the relationship between the client and the therapist. At the very core, therapy is about a healing relationship. This is what a prospective client should ask regarding a therapist when entering therapy: is it a relationship that is conducive to your growth, whatever your goals?

I often hear, "But other people have it worse," in an attempt to downplay our struggles and make things feel more manageable. While this mindset may be helpful at times, it also minimizes the importance of our current situation and dismisses our feelings. Whatever you are facing, if it's important to you it's also important to me. As a clinician with experience in multiple therapeutic settings, I have treated panic disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I also have a special spot in my heart for grief and loss and have treated those struggling with prolonged grief.

I have practiced as a licensed therapist for 33 years. In addition to private practice, I have worked for mental health clinics and hospitals in Virginia, Indiana and Florida. Counseling/therapy is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the counselor, the client and the particular problems you are experiencing. Most persons seek counseling because they are experiencing problems which are causing pain or difficulties in their lives. It is an important decision to begin counseling. Counseling calls for the therapist's active efforts to understand the client's needs and the training to help.

Life can be hard sometimes. Situations, circumstances and relationships can seem to be overwhelming or even impossible to handle. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to, to be a support through the difficult times, to help us sort things out, and to learn more healthy positive ways of overcoming these situations.

I believe all individuals have the capacity for change and can develop the tools to discover their purpose. I strive to create a space for clients where they explore what keeps them stuck in their old patterns, learning to make changes that allow them to discover personal meaning. I appreciate the strength and vulnerability it takes to engage in the therapeutic process.

Choosing to seek therapeutic services is a courageous step, and having a compassionate guide on your journey to healing can make all the difference. I believe in the power of growth and resilience, and how embracing vulnerability can catalyze deep, meaningful personal transformation. As a counselor, my goal is to provide a safe, nurturing space for those navigating emotional complexities, with a focus on complex trauma (c-PTSD). I employ a holistic approach using evidence-based modalities like DBT, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and CBT to foster self-awareness and strengthen emotional connections.

Perhaps you have the things you always thought would bring you happiness, such as family, friends, and a good job, but you still feel like something is missing; that you are not as happy as you “should be.” Life can be challenging at times, resulting in feelings of sadness, anxiety, and stress. We can start to feel like we have lost control of our lives, or that we do not have the power to make positive changes. Genuine happiness feels out of reach, leaving us with a sense of emptiness or lack of social connection. Tackling these issues can be scary, leaving us feeling vulnerable and exposed.
