All people and families strive for happiness and loving connectedness. All of us have an innate capacity to heal. As a Child & Family Therapist and Art Therapist, I assist children and families in healing, enhancing growth, family cohesiveness, and increasing the family's ability to weather life's stressors. Through the use of cognitive behavioral techniques, art therapy and play therapy techniques, family members are able to expand their capacity for healing, and happiness. I see children ages 3 to 18 years of age, families, and adults. My work has been described as engaging, playful, interactive, humorous, and gentle.

Finding a therapist that works for you is a lot like dating; not every therapist that you meet is going to be "the one". You should never feel like you need to hide parts of yourself from your therapist. If you or your child are dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event or loss, mood disruptions (anxiety, depression, anger), substance use, divorce or relationship challenges, I may be a good fit. I encourage you to reach out for a free consultation to see if we click.

To benefit from therapy it is important that you and your family feel safe and comfortable. As you work together to develop new problem-solving and coping skills your therapist needs to demonstrate well-developed listening skills combined with the ability to be straightforward and supportive as you move forward. It is also important that your therapist presents with solid credentials and experience in the areas in which you need assistance. I have been told by my adolescent clients and their parents that they feel comfortable and respected, while also provided with skills that can be practiced between visits.

Are you having a hard time "getting over" or "moving on" from something? Are you having trouble adjusting to a change in your life? Do you feel stuck and aren't sure about what to do next? Maybe it's a move, a breakup, a loss, or another life event that you're having a hard time accepting.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I strive to create a space that is warm, safe, and collaborative. I work with individuals who want to improve their quality of life by exploring areas that may be causing them stress (e.g., grief, identity, depression, anxiety, life transitions etc.). We would also talk about how these stressors may be related to their current or past relationships, whether it be family, friends, children, partners and/or peers. I consider my approach to be direct and open, as well as compassionate and flexible.

I recognize the significant challenges and emotions children and young adults face in their daily lives. In sessions, we work on navigating stressors and changes experienced in their family, relationships, school, and self. I explore with my clients to find goals and supports that are most in line with their own priorities and perspectives. We work together on processing the impact of relationships and events, providing skills and validation to help manage their emotions and thoughts. My aim is to provide a reassuring space for clients to reflect on themselves and use their insights to adapt thoughts, behaviors, and communication.

Not accepting new clients
My specialty is bereavement. I help clients to cope with the loss of a loved one, physical illness, and anticipatory grief. I also help clients cope with life transitions such as: job loss, relocating, divorce, retirement and relationship issues. My belief is that we all hold the answers to help ourselves, we just need to uncover them. I use a combination of brief therapy, experiential therapy, and emotionally focused therapy to help clients reinvest and reinvent themselves after a traumatic life event such as the death of a loved one. I see individuals, couples, families, adults and adolescents 17 and older.

Feeling stuck? Stressed? Generally unhappy? Are you struggling with your emotions and ignoring them until they overflow? This can impact your relationships, your work, and your ability to just enjoy life. Overwhelm and discontent don’t have to define this time in your life. It's ok to take space and time for yourself; to heal, to not accept what is or go back to what was, to instead move through into a better future for yourself and your family. Whether you want to address stress, depression, anxiety, life changes, trauma, burnout, messy relationships, anger, grief, or something else…you don't need to keep doing it alone.

If you're reading this you've already taken the first step towards improving your mental health. Congratulations! Life can be overwhelming, I believe we all have a mental backpack we fill with the pebbles and rocks created by the stress and experiences in our lives. Eventually the straps fray, it gets heavy, and your back begins to ache. My goal is to help lighten the load!

Did you know one of the most frequently discussed topics in a therapy session is relationships? We are wired to connect. Love and acceptance are needs we strive to experience. But we may lack the ability to communicate our priorities and values and to engage and regulate ourselves during intense conversations. This often leads to stagnation, limited opportunities, and a lack of meaningful connection. Therapy with me can bring clarity through identifying your strengths and developing additional skills to bolster your ability to tap into your greatness.

I strongly believe that therapy is for everyone, whether you are struggling with your mental wellbeing, or are simply at one of those challenging, confusing, or painful moments in life that we all experience. I provide therapy to people struggling with a broad range of concerns, and I specialize particularly in working with young adults. I invite my clients to use therapy as a safe and attuned space in which to share the thoughts and emotions that are most present for them, and then together we can untangle how these emotions are connected to current concerns, needs, and goals.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
