Feeling worried, sad, stressed out or having challenges in your relationships can be difficult to cope with. Sometimes feeling unhappy or unsatisfied with life can become unbearable. In situations where alcohol or drug use is involved issues can get worse quickly. Or maybe there is something else going on for you? When faced with challenges that can feel overwhelming counseling can help. Choosing a therapist is an important decision. I understand that seeking help can be tough and feeling comfortable in therapy is critical. I believe that treating my clients with the upmost respect and understanding comes first.

I have over 30 years experience working as a psychotherapist with a great variety of people who have come to me for help. My style is conversational, engaging and direct - I prefer a hu mane rather than a clinical approach and I actively participate in creating our work together. I love to help people develop emotionally and be able to make creative changes and meet challenges in their lives. My experience has been that people frequently discover, in their work with me, that they have more resources with which to build their lives than they had previously imagined.

I try to make it clear that I'm not afraid to be hu man, and you shouldn't be afraid to be hu man either.
I am a physician offering MAT, Medication-Assisted-Treatment for addiction to opioids and alcohol. These meds can help people stay off heroin, opioids, and alcohol - offering time to address the root of the problems, pains and sufferings that people are escaping from. Many times people who use drugs and alcohol have had difficult experiences at home growing up. With decent therapy they can rebuild their inner strength and become functioning adults again without needing alcohol and drugs as crutches. They can learn to love themselves the way they are, and move on in life.

The confusion of professional success while feeling personally unfulfilled is not uncommon, yet leaves many reluctant to ask for support.
Welcome. I work in a collaborative and compassionate style to help further understand and address the concerns that led you to this site. You are likely in search of relief from the way you are currently feeling. All of us employ coping strategies, but when constant worry, depression, relational, or life stress begin to overwhelm these strategies, it is often time to seek some professional help. We will work together to outline a plan to provide you with resources to reduce your current distress, facilitate growth, and make meaningful life changes.

We all find ourselves in situations where we struggle, become discouraged, or get "stuck". It's normal for us to, at times, be pushed to the threshold of what we may believe we are capable of managing. But whether our difficulties come to us in the form of overwhelming school or work obligations, an unhealthy relationship, or an inability to find the appropriate way to cope with a difficult emotion or painful memory, we can always find a way to not only manage, but to thrive.

Looking for a therapist? While considered a contractual agreement, there is significant research linking the success of treatment to the therapeutic relationship. I have a natural proclivity for creating enthusiasm and positivity in others and an ability to stimulate others’ strengths for their own personal excellence. Come have a FREE 15 minute conversation to see if we would be a good match.

But if you are looking for more, my post-graduate training and advanced credentials in Rational-Emotive-Behavior Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), enable me to teach you how to effectively manage your stress, sleep, unhealthy emotions and self-defeating behaviors--something I've successfully done for myself and thousands of clients for more than 40 years. Please visit website: www.theSTRESSdoc.com BEFORE calling me, anytime, to discuss your needs.

Tough wo men are interesting also however they often get really angry at me, more than the men.
I can be especially helpful to people who have had therapy with nothing much happening. I am very experienced and competent at what I do. Therapy is not an interminable process. I have trained and supervised hundreds of therapists. Depression, anxiety and self-confidence are issues I like to work with. We might have fun. I do Facetime and Doxy.me and Meet. You must reside in New York to be my patient. A free consultation and a sliding scale (0-200)/session if you have no insurance. Fee will not be an issue. I am a licensed psychologist in New York State.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
