My name is Angela Mang and I am a licensed mental health counselor in New York State. I take a person-centered approach to therapy and believe everyone is equipped with the tools already to solve their own problems, therapy can help to bring those to the surface. My areas of focus tend to be anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, and relationship issues. The most common theoretical approaches I use in my work are CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, and strength-based therapy.

The gift of therapy is the path of self-discovery and transformation. Envision a life free from the grips of past trauma, where you connect deeply in your relationships, and find inner peace. As human beings, we are wired for love and connection. It is essential to our well-being. When our relational needs are unmet, we may find ourselves spiraling in all areas of our lives, wondering how things got so out of hand. This is the power of relationship-based trauma therapy- a transformation you can feel inside and observe all around you.

Hi, my name is Phadia. I believe in therapy because I have been in therapy myself. Are you wondering if counseling is really for you? I may understand - because I have dealt with my own challenges and questioned if therapy could help. I now believe anyone can get through his or her trauma with the right support. I work with a team of amazing therapists. We like to say – we make dreams come true! That’s because we know when you’re able to get past this hurdle, you will be able to focus on all the things you’ve always dreamt about.

My work experience has included individual, group, and family psychotherapy using a variety of modalities including cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy ( DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and psychodynamic theory.
I am a psychotherapist who is passionate about helping others navigate the pressures and stressors of life. The world we live in can feel overwhelming, demanding and overly competitive. Our culture can be harmful when it comes to ideas about happiness, success and beauty ideals. My past work experience in the fashion industry and prior to that, being a Division 1 athlete, give me a unique insight into common societal pressures we face and the need to manage our mental health as a result. My goal as a therapist is to help heal and empower individuals to manage the pressures of life and find their own version of happiness.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
