I aim to guide clients to uncover and understand their truths as they share their stories. Feelings around intimacy, loss, and shame which manifest as depression and anxiety are often central themes. Couples counseling, issues relating to sex and sexuality, co-parenting, divorce, and physical illness are some of my specialties. People become stuck in self-imposed limitations and self defeating actions and self talk. In our work, you will gain new perspectives that encourage your authentic self to express itself.

Trying to manage life is a never-ending journey. With what life throws at us like heartache, loss, and overwhelming moments that become trying. With us not knowing which directions to take and feeling all feelings at once we can end in areas of anxiety, depression and negative behavior patterns. In times we face adversity, we tend to already have a solution but have a hard time with the steps and changes needed to get there.

If you are a woman who is the lower libido partner in your intimate relationship, you're likely stuck on the sexual anxiety hamster wheel. If you’re stuck here, then sex means stress. At least once or twice a week, you feel dread about when the next time might be that your partner will want to have sex because you are rarely in the mood for it. You avoid cuddling, hugging, and kissing your partner out of fear that if you do, they will think you are in the mood. You pull away when your partner tries to hug or kiss you and you look busy or say you are busy to avoid their affection turning into a request for sex. Sounds familiar?

People often ask me "How do you listen to people's problems all day?" I am inspired by the people I meet who often have difficult backgrounds and lives, yet are willing to work hard to grow and be happy, healthy, human beings. I am touched by their commitment and dedication to work on themselves instead of being angry, miserable people. What more important investment is there than investing time and energy in oneself?

I believe in utilizing psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy. However, my practice also focuses on changing the neural pathways that can become distorted when we experience trauma. With the help of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we can work to heal childhood trauma, adult PTSD, and distorted thinking that limits joy and growth in your life. Additionally, I have experience with supporting clients with cognitive integration after a psychedelic treatment. I can support you in taking control of both your body and mind.

As an individual, you may be experiencing a range of symptoms in body and mind that affect your ability to function optimally, to rise, and become your fullest you. In individual therapy, you’ll discover that these symptoms conceal aspects of yourself that yearn to be seen and known by the rest of you. In accessing these buried parts of self, you’ll find that your symptoms become openings through which powerful transformations occur. As a couple, you may find yourselves trapped in repetitive, painful interactions. In couples therapy, you'll begin to transform these interactions into a safe dialogue where all feel seen and known.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
