When we understand how our unconscious can control us, we are able to identify unhealthy patterns and better comprehend our feelings, behaviors, and thoughts. As a Jungian psychoanalyst, I engage with you to help you see your unconscious, become aware of your own power, and begin to live fully and with ease. I work with individuals to transform pain and past wounds to overcome such issues as addiction, relationship traumas, self-esteem, and sexual abuse. Breath work, body movement, dream interpretation, active imagination exercise, meditation, and painting all serve as media for healing and revealing unconscious truths.

The most meaningful thing that you can do for someone, is to genuinely listen. My goal for all who seek counseling, is to help you to be in the driver's seat to your emotions, guiding you towards your true potential, and helping you build true connections with healthy fulfilling relationships. I want you to know that it is okay to feel angry, sad, depressed, embarrassed, unintelligent, needy, and every other emotion; because, when you acknowledge and have control of these emotions, they can guide you to discovering who you are, ask for what you need, and identifying your path in life.

I am a Doctor of Social Work and LCSW, specializing in the healing of trauma and the symptoms associated with it, such as: anxiety, depression, and "feeling stuck". I believe we can all break free from trauma and find a sense of peace in this challenging life. My doctoral studies focused on spirituality and trauma; I have authored a textbook chapter and presented at conferences on this topic. Besides my therapeutic work, I also enjoy teaching social work practice at a university level.

If you struggle with inner conflict or feel disconnected, inadequate or lost, there may be deeper roots to address. Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, feeling pressure to conform to outer expectations and neglect your own truth, all could stem from past trauma. Complex trauma, familial or systemic, can lead to internalized guilt, shame or self-abandonment. You may feel confused, resentful, tense, hopeless or shut down. Yet, you are not doomed to stay stuck in this difficult loop. Healing is possible and can illuminate a path to more self-acceptance, authenticity, and better relationships with others and especially yourself.

Please note that my practice is for adults in New York State only. I'm a Japanese-born Jungian Analyst. While I mainly do Jungian analysis through dream interpretation and active imagination, I also use other modalities (e.g., Existential psychotherapy and mindfulness-based therapy). My focus is not so much on psychopathology or diagnosis per se, but more on the meanings that your unconsciousness is trying to convey through these problems. My view is that various life challenges often appear as stepping stones for further inner development and self-actualization.

I have studied deeply Yoga, Jungian Dream Analysis, Reiki, and Breath Work.
The sage Lao Tzu said, "At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want". There is a deep drive inside of us to form meaningful connections to ourselves, to family, and to community. This is a journey you do not have to take alone. My clients have come to me when going through such life changes, crisis, burnout, the end of a relationship, or a major job shift. I help them navigate these rocky waters and provide a safe haven for them to be seen, heard, validated, understood, and - if need be - challenged.

While I specialize in OCD and alleviating repetitive thoughts, I also support clients in overcoming shame, toxic relationships, eating disorders, depression, among other challenges. I take a lot of inspiration from Jungian psychology- where we may feel the need to put on a mask and perform in society so we can be accepted. Together, we will create a personalized space - where you can feel liberated to explore who you really are and meet your goals without having any masks on.

The capacity to deal with the unknown and find psychological balance are at the core of Jungian analysis.
Analysis is the process by which one works towards the individuation, the becoming of one’s own self. It is through this work that one heals. My therapeutic journey addresses the past, the present and the future in order to deal with the psychological questions of depression, anxiety, relationships, love, loss, life transitions, trauma, family dynamics, illness, addictions, creative blocks, identity, orientation and last but not least, meaning.

I am a Jungian Analyst with over 30 years of experience as a therapist and supervisor in a variety of settings including psychiatric hospitals, outpatient mental health clinics and private practice. My focus is on individual adults and couples who experience relationship issues, anxiety, depression and are searching for meaning in their lives. I explore repeating patterns that prevent individuals from living life to the fullest and try to find other possibilities in dealing with difficult situations. I believe that it is when we experience these difficult times that the greatest potential and most fulfilling change can occur.

As a Jungian psychoanalyst, I can work with dreams and other imaginative processes to see more deeply into the whole psyche, beyond the conscious perspective.
We all have the fundamental need to grow into and express who we are meant to be. However, this natural process can be inhibited by our need to adapt to pressures of family and society, by trauma, or by seemingly unresolvable contradictions in our personality. The goal of therapy is to bring this latent process to life, and to make it more conscious. A good therapeutic relationship will help you to be more receptive to yourself and to notice and honor these inner workings.

Jungian Therapists

How does Jungian therapy work?

Jungian therapy, also called analytical psychology, focuses on a patient’s inner experiences and unconscious mind. Exploring a person’s unconscious mind can be achieved through several means, including the analysis of memories and dreams, and through physical exercises, such as art, dance, and word association.

How long does Jungian therapy last?

Jungian therapy is an intensive treatment type. Because its goal is to understand a person as a whole, including the unconscious aspects of them, treatment can range from months to years. Since patients learn the theory behind Jungian therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have completed.

Is Jungian therapy effective?

According to studies, many patients find success with Jungian therapy, and the century-old treatment has a devoted following. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving relationships, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Improvements in problem areas seem to continue even after the end of Jungian therapy, as people are able to continue working on themselves using the tools they’ve learned during the treatment.

Is Jungian therapy evidence-based?

Jungian therapy is theory-based, derived from the theories of Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist often called one of the fathers of psychology, along with Sigmund Freud. Jung developed his theories from observing the problems of patients, and developed many theories of how the mind works. Subsequent psychological research has determined that Jungian therapy can lead to significant improvement in most patients.
