I use EMDR, relationship healing, trauma therapy, psychodynamic and plain old experience to get you there.
You know that gut sensation that something about your professional life or relationship isn’t right? Or that feeling of anxiety about everything and anything? Feelings that block you from confidently living your present and planning your future . You may feel like things are always stuck with no end in sight, and find yourself thinking: “I’ve tried so hard for so long and I don’t see much to show for it.” “Why can't I get my marriage right?" “I try so hard to be such a good mother/father/husband/wife etc...“Why do other people with less training, effort or experience often seem to do better than me?”

As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, trained in Betrayal Trauma and EMDR, my work is Trauma Focused.
I'm a Licensed Certified Social Worker with many years of clinical experience, currently licensed in CA, FL, NJ and NY. The focus of my work is with betrayed partners (of sex addicts). Most of my clients approach me trying to understand and process the trauma that they have suffered. For many patients, their recent trauma, is not their first. Patients often tell me that I’m so easy to talk to and that they feel comfortable and validated when working with me. In helping my clients understand their trauma, and the dynamics around it, I work gently and carefully, while ensuring comfort and safety as we talk about these difficult topics

Our strongest reactions have roots in the past. We can't change difficult situations of the past but we can work together to understand how you have been impacted and work through challenges in the present. My goal is to work with you to uncover your true potential and innate healing. By applying complementary therapeutic approaches and techniques, in a warm and supportive environment, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns and/or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing healthier relationships and a happier, more fulfilling life today.

Do you constantly feel overwhelmed in your life? For a woman who’s struggling with setting boundaries, daily commitments can often feel like too much. Your nervous system may be stuck in "fight or flight mode", and it can affect your self-esteem and your relationships, making your life too difficult to manage. This can happen for multiple reasons, one of them might be a childhood trauma. Despite that you can learn how to trust yourself again.

As a therapist, I prioritize building a genuine therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy and compassion. Our bodies hold trauma and stress accumulated over our lifetimes. My practice integrates EMDR, mind-body modalities, and talk therapy to help clients cope with current stress and heal from trauma. Our life experiences also lead us to develop unhelpful thoughts and beliefs. I empower my clients to recognize and adapt their harmful thoughts patterns, giving them the tools to thrive.

I am certified and/or trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Treatment, Energy Psychology and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Are you feeling like something is not quite right but also feel conflicted about the notion of having a mental health condition? This is a very common feeling especially when cultural values and other beliefs compete with the desire to seek this type of help. My practice approach is culturally sensitive, collaborative, and individual-specific which helps to create a sense of respect and autonomy. My main goal in your treatment will be to foster physical and emotional safety, to allow an open discussion of the issues and the best way to address them.

I treat individual and couples issues, relationship and sexual concerns, anxiety, trauma, stress management, women's issues, and career uncertainty, Kirsten has been trained in CBT, EMDR and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
You deserve a life that feels good. We know that even good relationships can get stuck in unhealthy patterns. Do you find that when you are trying to connect with your partner you end up in a cycle of communication that's not helpful or productive? Do you retreat and silence it until next time? There is always next time… Maybe this time they will understand…we become louder in hopes they see how hurt we are.The more we aren't seen and heard the more resentful we become. The explosions become more significant and the intimacy ceases, now you are just resentful roommates.— It doesn't have to be this way.

If the feelings are too overwhelming, we may talk about doing something called EMDR, which is a trauma-focused intervention and protocol to help you gain your equilibrium in a more concrete manner.
Healing comes in many guises. We can heal from a cut hand with a band aid, we can heal from a broken bone by setting it and isolating it in a cast, but when we heal from hurting feelings and trauma, we're not as savvy on how to heal this. Sometimes, when we're traumatized, we don't know what to do to feel better.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
