For trauma healing, treatment begins only when clients feel comfortable and have mastered grounding techniques for triggering moments.
Your feelings are valid! As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Black therapist in NYC, I understand the value of receiving quality therapy services. My practice is dedicated to helping women of color keep their crowns on straight. I specialize in trauma, women's issues, and anxiety. My primary therapeutic focus is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which uses bilateral stimulation to help replace traumatic memories. Healing occurs through various approaches, so I also use multiple therapies to help my clients reduce depression, anxiety, work stress, and emotional distress.

Robert Macy a well know crisis/grief/ trauma psychologist in my profession.
I work comfortably with adolescents and adults. Offering them a comfortable, safe and non-judgemental environment. Therapy starts when a person picks up the phone to make their first appointment and he/or she states to the therapist their presenting problem, that single action takes a brave soul to announce out loud to a total stranger their problem. I honor that person and their strength. I am a eclectic therapist with a broad knowledge of expertise. Using the best therapy modality that will best fit my client's needs, so that they may reach their goals and decrease their stress and anxiety.

A wise fish once said "just keep swimming." It seems like a silly quote, but this is what guides me and my approach to treating depression and anxiety. When things feel dark and we don’t know what to do, we often feel paralyzed. It’s understandable, so many of us are taught to shove emotions down or feel shamed for being “too sensitive.” I won’t pretend to have all the answers. What I can do is sit in the dark and uncertainty with you and offer what skills have helped me, and others, clear things up enough to move forward.

ARE YOU BROKEN AND HURT ON THE INSIDE? On the outside everything looks fine. You look like you have it all together and to others your life looks great. But on the inside you feel overwhelmed, stressed, anxious and depressed. Are past traumas interfering with your life now? Maybe you struggle with setting boundaries which often leaves you feeling depleted and unloved. Maybe your questioning some of the choices you have made and need a space to figure out how to put your life back in order because right now everything feels out of control. Is the anxiety keeping you up at night? Is the depression starting to take you down?

I am a Christian Counselor. I believe that psychotherapy is more effective when Christ is central to the process. Since God created the child, adolescent and his/her parents, He is the one with the wisdom to bring healing and restoration to the family. Though I have specialized with children and adolescents many adults have requested to see me and now my practice is expanding to include adults. Christian Counseling unites Biblical values with the power of the Holy Spirit, together with the knowledge base of psychology and social work to bring emotional and mental health healing to people.

At a time in your life you may need a little help making things more manageable. You might have tried to fix all your problems by yourself... you have asked family and friends for advise... a higher power to make things better , to give you the strength and foresight to face all your troubles. You've even tried to do your best until you learn better but nothing seem to change. If you don't make the time to work on creating the life you want , you are eventually going to be forced to spend a lot of time dealing with the life you don't want.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
