My approach to the practice of psychotherapy integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and narrative-based approaches in the service of healing change.
I believe that when struggling with concerns and issues like lack of finances, anxiety, depression, traumatic events, and strained relationships, the individual needs to have a supportive ear and a nonjudgmental point of view to process and explain their feelings. Being heard is an essential key in the therapeutic process. The therapeutic process is about improving on your strengths and strengthening your weaknesses. My goal is to make your life your reality by working with you to help improve your life.

I utilize psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, & mindfulness approaches.
I'm a therapist, a licensed psychologist, accepting new patients in my new Huntington, Long Island, New York office. this is my 33rd year in practice, and I love the work as much as ever. Psychotherapy can serve many purposes. It is perhaps the only venue where we can speak about pretty much anything... not just deep dark problems, "issues", unpleasant events, mental disorders or illnesses, but potentials, dreams, a life in which you have more choices available to you, and more ways of pursuing them alone and in relationship with others. Psychotherapy done well is a powerful sort of education, the kind we don't receive in scho

Although, I am a graduate of the Long Island Institute for Mental Health's training program in psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy, today most of my work draws on cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based psychotherapy.
Helping someone to feel comfortable and safe discussing whatever they are struggling with is my highest priority. The decision to talk to a professional about personal problems is often difficult and frightening. However, the way I see it is that we all encounter challenges that may be beyond our ablity to handle well alone at some points in our lives. Having the courage to ask for help is really a strength rather than a weakness. People who come to me for help say I am easy to talk to and provide them with the chance to develop a healthy perspective.

Interventions include Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics, and Positive Psychology techniques.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I love helping people set and reach short and long term goals, experience happiness, and effectively manage and accept negative emotions. I really enjoy helping people to identify, accept, and overcome anxiety. While we all experience anxiety during our lives, it is important to learn the difference between real and imagined dangers, to be able to approach new experiences even if we are scared, and to live a life free from the damaging and smothering aspects of anxiety related disorders.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
