I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. Life in an ever-evolving and increasingly digital age brings unique stressors and issues that can be difficult to deal with on your own. I treat clients who seek support through childhood trauma, life transitions, relationships, anxiety, and chronic stress. Sometimes having a person to talk to outside of your situation can help you begin to feel better. Life can feel difficult, but you do not have to go through it alone.

I utilize evidence-based practices such as: Psychodynamic, Trauma-Focused, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist my clients as they heal and transform into the best version of themselves.
Are you anxious more than ever, feeling “off” or “not like yourself” lately, facing relationship issues, or maybe you’re tired of holding everything in and ready to talk to someone? If you answered yes to any, you’ve come to the right place. In our sessions you will find that therapy is a meaningful conversation that takes place in a safe, collaborative, and nonjudgemental space where YOU set the pace and where we can identify conflict and options, make efforts toward self-growth, and pursue paths of change. My goal is to help you uncover your own motivation to change and empower you to be confident in the decisions you make.

Some of my post-graduate trainings include EMDR levels 1, 2, 3; Attachment-Focused EMDR Levels 1, 2, 3; family systems theory at the Ackerman Institute; REBT at the Albert Ellis Institute; sexuality at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy; Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at NY Insight Meditation Center; Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
I understand the vulnerability of bringing the intimacies of your inner and outer world to another human being. And finding the “right” therapist is often a source of additional angst. The good news is that I have trained extensively to provide the safe and healing “holding space,” for you to come as you are, without fear of judgment. I will meet you with skill, understanding, and strategies to address current, past and/or future challenges. My typical client is high-functioning, but struggling in some aspect of life with issues like anxiety, low mood, unresolved trauma, or relationships. Congratulations on taking the first step!

I employ EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, IFS, and mindfulness, to help clients find ways to live the life they want to live.
I take a basic trauma approach. Often early in life, circumstances overwhelm us. We can feel unseen and misunderstood or as if we have to perform in order to be loved and accepted. When these situations are chronic, we naturally develop automatic responses to try and solve the problem. These responses arise again and again in adulthood without our bidding, creating varying degrees of anxiety and depression which negatively impact our relationships, careers, and ambitions. The good news is the system wants to find a way to heal itself. That’s what brought you here. It is my goal to help you realize your innate perfection.

There is no template or single method that I use in my practice. Instead, we will determine the pace and style that is best for you. Throughout our work together, I will be open to and enthusiastic about the feedback you provide about the treatment. I will share my thoughts and assessments, with room for discussion.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
