I use an integrated approach that blends psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and person-centered therapies.
Life can be stressful, challenging, and overwhelming at times. You may feel sad, depressed, anxious, and worried. Coping with these uncomfortable feelings and emotions can often be difficult. "All the world is full of suffering; it is also full of overcoming," said an American author Helen Keller. I strongly believe that you have the strength within yourself to overcome any obstacles that life brings with my therapeutic assistance and guidance. I will create a safe, warm, and empathetic environment to enhance progress toward your goals, support personal growth, and encourage positive change.

Drawing from integrative approaches such as psychodynamic therapy, attachment-based psychotherapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), I tailor sessions to meet one's specific needs.
I am a psychotherapist dedicated to supporting individuals in their healing journeys, with a deep understanding of the complexities of culture, identity, and intergenerational dynamics. I specialize in addressing relational processing, and the unique experiences of BIPOC individuals. I understand the challenges of navigating multiple worlds—culture, religion, social expectations, and familial dynamics and the impact these factors can have on one's well-being and sense of identity. My goal is to help one explore these intersections with compassion and empathy, empowering you to find clarity, resilience, and healing.

Sometimes all that stands in the way of your happiness and peace of mind is the way you think about things. It's remarkable how our own thoughts can work against us creating anxiety, depression and an overall feeling of being trapped or stuck. The happiness that you truly want and deserve is actually within your control! Whether it's getting rid of your fears, understanding why you feel sad, finally having that healthy relationship you have been yearning for, reducing stress, finding balance, or finally being able to answer the question "what will make me happy?".

Asking for help is one of the strongest things you can do; but it can also be one of the hardest because of past experience of not being heard, believed, or supported. Extreme stressors &traumatic events-including health conditions-affect every aspect of our lives &can make relationships w/family & friends very challenging. The impact of these events can make us feel isolated, misunderstood,& unsupported. They can also lead us to make choices we are not proud of & limit our enjoyment of life in general. I specialize in anxiety/depression/life transitions/complex trauma/relationship issues/grief/sex therapy/pelvic floor dysfunction.

I'm just a mental health guide. You're the expert on you. You've lived your entire life with all of the context of all of your experiences, relationships etc. When you step into my sessions, you're providing me with a window into that world and I provide you with my clinical interpretation of what I perceive. You're the one that's living in it. It's my job to help you navigate your own mind to get you what you want. Not to shape you into what I believe is best. I'm just the mental health guy.

As a therapist, my goal is to provide my clients with a warm and compassionate environment free from the fear of judgment and criticism. I understand that each person is unique and are all learning how to work through our own life’s challenges. I stress the importance of addressing each individual's specific needs in order to truly feel heard, validated, and in control of their own therapeutic journey. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness techniques, I help my clients gain insight into their daily stressors and work with them to challenge maladaptive thoughts.

"Change" is an inevitable part of life! Although it can result in new and exciting opportunities unfortunately, it can often create painful and unmanageable symptoms when we consider the "losses", transition and possible grief associated with it. Loss of relationships, marriage, family, loved ones, jobs, health, confidence, etc., can easily translate into anxiety, depression, confusion and doubt. As an empathetic, versatile and understanding therapist for over 30 years, I have been instrumental in changing individual and couples lives and futures by providing coping tools, strategies, and promoting resiliency with supportive and empowering approaches that the navigation of these challenges require.

I attended Adelphi University for both my undergraduate and graduate studies. I earned both a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Adelphi. Since graduation, I have worked as a clinial psychotherapist providing individual therapy to seniors, adults, adolescents and children. I specialize in treating clients, who suffer from anxiety, depression, panic disorders, and phobias. I have developed an eclectic therapeutic treatment approach. However, my individual approach gravitates towards cognitive behavior theory. My work with clients focuses on their realization that their various disorders stem from their erroneous beliefs about themselves.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
