Are you repeating negative patterns in many different areas in your life? The healing process is multi-layered. I can teach you how to bring yourself into alignment with your “ true self”. We will work on coping skills so you can find your center, and as you feel emotionally safe within yourself, we can explore the source(s) of negative thoughts and behavior patterns. Healing is intentional. Do you listen to your intuition? Do you hear it? We all have it, but too often our chronic thinking brain is so loud it drowns out the intuitive voice within. I can help teach you emotional wellness. I am also a Reiki practitioner.

Everyone suffers many losses in their lifetime. Grief is our reaction to loss based on what we have learned from childhood, what we have experienced as adults, and how we have chosen to respond. We then struggle to determine how to evolve and change. The grieving process does not follow a prescribed path. There are many commonalities to the grieving process, yet the journey is unique to the individual. Loss is typically defined as a death, but may take many forms: a relationship, a job, a pet. I specialize in many types of Grief and Transitions including Anticipatory. Absent, Complicated, Disenfranchised, Chronic, Delayed and Inhibited.

Are you trying to figure out how to make changes in yourself and in your life? Counseling is just a series of conversations with 3 basic parts. First is for you to identify what you want to change, then you will explore ways to make those changes. Finally there is the work of challenging some of your thinking habits and how to try new strategies. This can can lead to changes in your behavior. Rigid or inaccurate thoughts can limit your understanding of other people as well as yourself. As you progress you will likely feel much more hopeful and positive. These new skills can be used daily. This is you taking charge of your life!

Do you want to understand yourself and others better? Maybe you don't understand why you're depressed, anxious, prone to mood swings, or having difficulty experiencing satisfying relationships, or just don't know how to change it. I help you understand how your experiences, and your thoughts related to those experiences, relate to your suffering (depression, anxiety, PTSD, mood swings, relationships, self-esteem, anger, shame). We collaborate to explore your life (past/present) to gain insight. We ID what you want to change and how to achieve that, while recognizing and accepting what can't be changed or controlled. Life gets better

Additionally, I have a background in women's health working for more than 10 years as a physician assistant.
Our relationships with others and ourselves can be wonderful and fulfilling. However, these same relationships can be frustrating and toxic. Relationship issues can be difficult to navigate at any age - whether the dilemma is with your family, friends, or within your own psyche. I offer clients emotional support and counseling through traumatic events, as well as an outlet for those who need guidance dealing with everyday life. We can work together to explore why you’re seeking therapy and develop tools that will help you move forward in a positive way.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
