We specialize in working with trauma survivors, LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, Trans and Gender-Nonconforming, Self-Harming, Addicted, fat/larger-bodied, disabled, kink/BDSM, and polyamorous people.
You worry all the time about being judged by other people. You feel disconnected from your body and, at the same time, feel like it’s all you think about. You question what you say, how your body looks, if you’re doing things “right,” and there are so many times where your mind feels like it’s on a hamster wheel that you can’t stop. You feel on edge all day and sometimes even feel like you may be having a heart attack. You don’t feel like you fit in anywhere. You’ve been made fun of before for so many different parts of who you are. You’ve been called weird or have been misunderstood at work, in your family, and even in some of your dating relationships. You’ve struggled to find someone who feels like a good fit romantically, and you’re worried there’s something wrong with you. You want to feel more connected to yourself again…

Every day, I am inspired by the courage and strength of my clients. Bearing witness to their progress and being part of their journey of fulfillment is a profound honor. As Irvin Yalom poignantly stated, "The act of revealing oneself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help." I am here to listen, support, and guide you every step of the way, helping you embrace the here and now and unlock your inner strength. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor, where we work in concert to uncover patterns, build coping strategies, and foster personal growth.

Are you a queer, trans, non-binary, or gender expansive person exploring gender/sexuality while coping with homophobia and/or transphobia? If you are TGNC, do you find yourself experiencing gender dysphoria and also want to explore gender euphoria? In a cishet-centered world, it can be difficult to prioritize queer joy and safety. Regardless of where or how you fit into the LGBTQIA+ community, my hope is that we can start that prioritization process together while also holding space for the hard stuff. As a therapist, I believe that you are the expert in your own life. My aim is to listen and provide warmth, patience, and tools.

My guiding principle as a therapist is deep listening without judgment (acknowledgement plus acceptance) so that people can feel the freedom to express themselves, explore their experiences and create authentic connection. I believe that listening is an essential tool in healing and feeling valued. My approach is trauma-informed and client-centered, with an anti-oppression lens. I am committed to the lifelong unlearning of colonial structures that are deeply rooted in mental health, and to holding space for others to unpack how societal and institutional structures have impacted their mental health and wellness.

As a gay, trans man, I know what it is like to struggle to find a therapist who understands your experience. Therapy is a collaborative endeavor and I am here to support you in your growth. Whatever it may be that brings you to therapy, I can offer a warm, safe, and engaging space for you to explore what is getting in the way. I am interested in cultivating your awareness to allow you to uncover patterns that no longer serve you.

I'm so glad you're here. Finding a supportive, therapeutic home can be a difficult challenge for us as queer, transgender, and non-binary people. Therefore, I hold some values to create a safer space: you are the expert in your own lived experience; you already posses the strengths that will help you with the challenges you're facing; you deserve a place without judgement; and you are entitled to be your authentic self. I come from a cross-cultural, social justice perspective, and believe collaboration with you is necessary for your best self. I serve individuals and families.

You feel disconnected from life & from your body. You struggle to connect in your relationships, are unhappy in your career, feel hopeless for the future or move through the world in a fog. You’ve been shamed for who you are & now you speak to yourself with harshness & can’t ever feel like enough inside your own head. You’ve been told that who you are is somehow inherently flawed. I help people increase compassion, reduce shame and feel a greater sense of belonging within themselves and their bodies.

What’s getting in the way of you being yourself? Let’s work together to bust past your blocks so you can share your full self with the world. I create an open-minded, sex positive, and compassionate space where clients are free to both find and be their true selves. Through my integrated, client-centered approach, we’ll work together to discover who you are, work through different pieces of your identity, and work through anything holding you back from being the fullest, most authentic version of yourself.

"Be easy. take your time. you are coming home to yourself.-Nayyirah Waheed. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York, I like to bring a culturally and identity affirming, trauma informed lens to my work with clients. As a socially conscious Queer, Neurodivergent, Non-binary, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color), I take deliberate care to recognize, respect and celebrate all of the identities of my clients. By slowing down, we are able to find and care for the parts of ourselves that are often hidden, ignored, and might even be hurting the most.

You might not realize it yet but you know yourself better than anyone else. What I have found in my personal and professional experience is that the more connected and compassionate we are with ourselves, the more connected and compassionate we are to our surroundings. I am a Brown, queer, gender non-conforming, immigrant, psychotherapist. I practice from an anti-oppressive lens that acknowledges the impact of the many systems we navigate under everyday. Naming the impact along with an exploration of the self, can lead us to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our humanity.

Everyone comes to The Work in their own way, for their own reasons, in their own time. For some, it's a safe space to explore and grow as they need. For others it's a dedicated ear and a mind trained to help them resolve emotional conflicts, stress, anxiety, and depression. Still others long to be seen and embraced (in all of their complexity and nuance). Whatever journey has led you here, my goal is to help you step into the fullness of your Self and live the best life possible.

If you are a queer and/or trans person of color looking to explore the ways that your intersectional identities shape your life, I may be the right fit for you! I'm interested in working with folks who want to move beyond mainstream, Western narratives of mental health and well-being, and connect with the roots and paths that have forged your unique path. How do we define our "best self", and what societal structures may have impacted that idea? How do we move towards being more comfortable and vulnerable at the expense of shattering lifelong ideas of how we are meant to live?

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
