I am a psychologist with over thirty years experience treating childhood disorders. My experience has been that early childhood therapy and parent-training are most effective, and emotional healing occurs most readily, when parent and child are seen together. Focus during, and between sessions, involves teaching of play skills and modeling of effective limit setting. For older children, self modulation of behavior is a primary objective. Utilizing these techniques, I have successfully treated anxiety problems (such as selective mutism), depressive symptoms, and developmental disorders (such as Aspergers Syndrome).

I provide individual and group therapy, specializing in supporting young adult women aged 18-40. My primary goal is to help you explore and understand how your core beliefs about yourself, others, and the world shape your experiences. It's easy to become entrenched in our own perspectives, making it difficult to recognize unhelpful patterns and behaviors. Together, we’ll uncover these core influences and focus on nurturing positive growth or restructuring aspects that no longer align with your journey.

Specific modalities include CBT, ACT, ERP, and psychodynamic.
I'm an introverted husband, dad, sports fan, musician, gamer, brainstormer, Christian, and an intent listener who loves psychology and supporting people. My clients and I build rapport quickly and we are usually able to figure out the root causes of symptoms of general/social anxiety, anger, and depression within the first few sessions. Many of the focus areas that usually come up include negative thought patterns, stress management, enhancing relationships with friends and family, navigating life transitions, building self-esteem/confidence, developing healthier behaviors/reactions, and dealing with grief/loss.

Many of our relationship difficulties cause us emotional distress; therefore, I emphasize a psychodynamic interpersonal approach.
I am available to help individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, and interpersonal and relationship difficulties. The first step is talking with someone compassionate who listens and tries to understand the world from your perspective. I know the importance of the relationship between therapist and client; therefore, I take a client-centered approach. Being able to tell your story and process it is the first step toward healing and initiating change. My approach is integrative, where I employ different therapeutic modalities to meet your unique needs best.

In our work together, I take a psychodynamic approach to help us uncover how past relationships and experiences shape our current thoughts, behaviors, and emotions.
Since COVID-19 and advancements in technology, many people have felt the weight of isolation and the frustration of feeling misunderstood. Navigating life’s transitions—or simply managing day-to-day life—can feel overwhelming when it seems like there’s no one to turn to. I recognize the courage it takes to reach out for support, and I hold that trust with deep respect. To me, therapy is a mutual process where we work together to foster understanding and connection. My goal is to create a safe, collaborative space where you can feel supported and truly heard.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
