I specialize in grief & loss, postpartum, depression and anxiety.
Sometimes life takes you on a journey that you did not sign up for. Picture this, you make the perfect itinerary and plan for your perfect vacation. Everything you want to do you were able to schedule. Then, you show up at the airport and find out you missed your flight. What do you do now?

When life gets heavy it can feel like we're stuck in a forest, struggling to find warmth and navigate ourselves toward a safe path. This can make it difficult to show up in our lives the way we’d like to, we’re desperately trying to move forward, but past experiences and future worries trip us time and time again. Trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief can make it easy to stay stuck in this forest. What can be difficult, though, is reaching out for a hand to hold along the way as we make new turns that lead us back to ourselves.

Life can throw you sudden and unexpected challenges. Stéphanie understands the difficulties surrounding change and the anxiety that occurs over an unknown future. The process of grief can be associated with any kind of loss: a job, relationship, the loss of a pet, or most painfully, a loved one. Stéphanie knows that the closing of one door may lead to the opening of another. You may not ever forget the loss, but she can help you to move forward. Stéphanie also has a passion for helping those experiencing depression, anxiety, and daily life challenges through her empathetic, open and non-judgmental kindness.

I have spent years facilitating individual and group services that center around grief, schema, dissociation, and complex trauma.
Working with a counselor can be anxiety provoking, so my focus is on helping you to feel at ease and create clear goals to make you feel better. I love to support clients in developing skills to manage emotions, build mindfulness in moving through pain, and find compassionate ways to heal.

My clients come to see me seeking assistance for a wide variety of issues related to anxiety, depression, mental/physical illness, grief and loss, trauma, stress, and unexplained anger. I believe in exploring issues from a family perspective; where did you come from and how did you come to be who, and how, you are? When you struggle in your life, it can sometimes become too easy to focus solely on what is wrong, forgetting what is right. Working together, you can get back on the right path.

My approach to therapy is collaborative. We may work with a variety of issues that include anxiety and depression, grief, end of life issues, chronic illness and pain, existential crises, men's issues, and relationship difficulties. Alongside therapy, my work has helped give me a perspective that addresses every stage of life and its challenges. We can approach such challenges together, ranging from young adulthood through those near the end of life. It's always an honor to accompany people on a journey of self-discovery and who have taken this first brave step toward healing. I would be honored to take it with you.

I help individuals develop coping skills to manage life’s many challenges (stress, depression, grief, trauma, domestic violence, relationships, infertility, pregnancy and infant loss).
In life’s journey we experience different challenges which may impact our mental health well-being. Counseling may provide the support and guidance to cope and overcome these challenges. It takes courage to take the first steps towards change and seeking out a more fulfilling and happier life. I believe that you are the expert of your own story and building on one’s strengths, motivation, and self-esteem is an essential part to making positive growth and change. I am here to support and empower you in your journey.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
