I believe that you are truly the expert on you, and that treatment outcomes are greatly improved when the therapeutic process is collaborative in nature. We will work together to explore, challenge, and detach from thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that no longer serve you.

In my 11 years of experience providing counseling services in schools and in the clinical setting, I have found the importance of connection, building a safe space, and playfulness in work with children, young adults and families. I am passionate about helping clients dealing with anxiety, depression, school avoidance, trauma, ADHD, OCD, and difficult family dynamics. I have worked with many children on strengthening attachment with caregivers and identifying their innate positive qualities and resources to increase a sense of safety and to experience real success.

As a therapist, I strongly believe in creating a comfortable and safe space for clients. Through my experience, I've found that my therapy style is more casual, where I find sessions being experienced as casual conversations. I also show clients that I am human too and let clients of mine know that I've had my share of life experiences and have experienced some of the feelings you've experienced based on your current stressors. I can truly empathize with you and your stress. I've heard from many clients that this approach has led them to feel more comfortable in the therapeutic space and with me as their provider.

When it pertains to your intimate life, you deserve nothing less than outstanding, compassionate care. It is an incredibly vulnerable act to open up about your struggles with sexuality. Whether your issues stem from trauma, dysfunction, or secrets, I see you and I hold space for you. Healing is possible, even in the spiciest of circumstances. I am a Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy provider and Brainspotting Therapist. I am honored to accompany people in their trauma recovery and am happy to swim in the deep end with you.

I have over 20 years experience in the human service field. My passion is providing compassionate support for those struggling with life's challenges in a safe and non-judgmental environment; assisting individuals in addressing what is troubling them; whether it is marital conflict, depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, trauma, anger management, serious mental illness, etc.; helping them to achieve their personal goals; effecting positive change and working toward desired outcomes. I incorporate principles from the Christian faith for those who desire that but work with all people/faiths indiscriminately.

Tired of feeling stuck and frustrated? You deserve to live a meaningful and fulfilling life. I can help you accomplish that. I utilize an inside-out approach, facilitating healing at a deep, somatic level that endures rather than trying to convince yourself you are okay when you know you don’t feel it in your body. I incorporate other modalities, such as psychodynamic, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral interventions, into treatment.

Let’s have an honest conversation: Are your relationships helping you….or hurting you? Sometimes, we engage in relationships that are detrimental to our success, future, and overall wellness! This can be due to many factors, some of which we are unaware of until we dissect what the core factors are. As a Black woman, I also look to identify the unhelpful generational patterns and/or beliefs that ‘root’ us in engaging in relationships that no longer serve us.

It can be challenging to go through the stages of therapy, but the goal is that you leave the session exhaling with a smile that you took a step towards supporting yourself, that you made yourself a priority, and are on your way to tackling life’s stressors. We can work together to face the struggles that brought you to therapy and find solutions that help you feel inspired and empowered. I have spent much time doing crisis intervention and trauma therapy work. I am also passionate about working with grief/bereavement clients and have recently developed an interest in working with self-esteem building in client sessions.

I believe that starting from the client's needs is the key to successful treatment. In order to explore the possible foundation of the problem, I like to get a general overview of the concerns and the person's current living environment, support system, background, and upbringing. Homework is assigned only if warranted; depending on the mode of treatment utilized and individual preferences, it may or may not be necessary. I enjoy working with individuals who are motivated to see a change in their life.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
