My Christian faith is key to my personal well-being.
Life is full of ups and downs. Anxiety, depression, past trauma, and unexpected loss or changes can become huge barriers to success and joy. Sometimes the challenges we face can be better overcome by reaching out for help and support. I would be honored to use my education, skills, and a decade of experience as a counselor to walk with you on a path to hope

I offer a Christian philosophy and perspective, respecting those clients desiring a secular perspective.
I've worked in the mental health field since 2000 with various populations (individuals, couples and families), however, my specialties include men's studies, pornography/sexual addiction, relationship health for married couples & EMDR. I especially find men experience challenges in life and lack the means or opportunities to be supported, validated heard. I strive to be practical and direct, yet effective in fostering change. Whether guiding couples in marriage prep or in marital strain, I develop understanding of relationships, creating an open, honest and safe communication style which fosters intimacy through challenges.

I have over 20 years experience in the human service field. My passion is providing compassionate support for those struggling with life's challenges in a safe and non-judgmental environment; assisting individuals in addressing what is troubling them; whether it is marital conflict, depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, trauma, anger management, serious mental illness, etc.; helping them to achieve their personal goals; effecting positive change and working toward desired outcomes. I incorporate principles from the Christian faith for those who desire that but work with all people/faiths indiscriminately.

We've all heard the phrase "live your life to the fullest," but for many of us, that can seem like an impossible goal. Navigating our thoughts and feelings, exploring cognitive patterns, and understanding who we truly are can be a challenging and complex process. My goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where clients can explore their innermost thoughts and feelings. By creating a space that is validating, non-judgmental, and compassionate, I help clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

Walking through this journal called life is difficult and there lies an extra layer of challenges when one is struggling with their mental health specifically related to past or current traumatic events. In fact, without awareness, we often make decisions and behave based upon how our past experiences have made us feel. I am here to help you explore the root of these issues, which in turn, will lead to the discovery of your true identity and self worth. My therapeutic approach is holistic in nature and this is why I specialize in the use of EMDR, IFS, and ACT.

HIPAA compliant video sessions available. The problem with daily life is that it is so daily. Sometimes life feels like a grind. Sometimes we lack direction. Sometimes life is just plain painful. You may be experiencing depression, relationship struggles, divorce, separation, infidelity, anger, anxiety, grief and loss, or addiction. Wherever you are, that is the starting line for the rest of your life. That does not mean the rest of your life has to be more of the same. How about a new direction...a new perspective? I may be able to help. The first step is yours. I look forward to your call.

I was first drawn to social work when I worked in a facility that housed teens. I enjoyed the relationships I made and the support I was able to provide. I realized my strength was simply just listening and making them feel heard. This experience eventually lead me to receiving my Masters in Social Work and becoming a clinical therapist. My goal has always been to help my clients understand that they can overcome any obstacle by using the daily skills I provide to change their outlook. With a little patience and time, we will work on changing thoughts and behaviors, so depression and anxiety are less likely to occur.

I adhere to the philosophy that relationships are at the core of the human experience, yet there are times when healing can't be done alone. My work is fundamentally relational. I help people overcome trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, with an understanding that these issues can overlap or involve additional problems impacting other areas of life. I am warm, relatable, active, and flexible, balancing exploratory work with directness. I have over 15 years of experience with a diverse body of clients. I divide my time between clinical work, teaching, and research.

Christian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.

Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?

Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.

How do I recognize an effective Christian therapist?

Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.

Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?

While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?

The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
