Emotional intelligence and connection are just one of the various challenges we face through our lives. Whether it be daily stresses or heavy traumas, understanding the responses we have for ourselves, or our partners can be a challenge. Through therapy, we can begin to understand the ways in which we have learned to respond to stressful and emotional situations. This way, we can begin to unravel the patterns and responses we previously had to healthier and more constructive responses.

I am a practicing licensed mental health counselor in Buffalo NY and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. I firmly believe in a Harm Reduction approach to life, not just providing therapy for clients. I also emphasize the importance of the relationship that is therapy and the communication that takes place in the therapeutic environment. I understand the importance of trust in your treatment provider and put my all into reinforcing that my clients can trust me with their deepest. No shame or judgement allowed. That's not my job and would be significantly counterproductive to our goal of change. Shame traps and restricts. No good

Step into the realty that YOU are the Ancient, Eternal, Infinite, One, and Unchanging LIGHT shining through the flesh-and-blood prism known as the self. In other words, YOU are the Driver, and what YOU see in the mirror is the Vehicle. Like every good mechanic, I listen to both Driver and Vehicle. Remember: You are NOT anxious, depressed, or fearful, your vehicle is.

I have been working in the social work field for over 24 years. My experience has been primarily with Adolescents and Adults who suffer from addiction and mental health disorders. I enjoy the process of engaging individuals and trying to develop a working relationship built upon sincerity and trust. I believe that the therapeutic alliance is the most important aspect of any effective counseling session. I understand and recognize that each individual is unique and brings his/her different life experiences and circumstances to the therapeutic relationship which serve as their building blocks of internal change and self-growth.

I think you are amazing for taking the next step to create the life you want. If you have been having a challenging time with a new situation or want to change something that you have been experiencing for a while now, counseling can help. The need to work on accepting and affirming ourselves for who we are, managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and traumatic experiences, family & relationship difficulties, improving our self-esteem, navigating today's stressful world, and managing work/career issues are part of many people's experience at one time or another. I believe we all have the ability to improve our health and lives.

I admire you for your courage and vulnerability in seeking counseling services. Your pain matters, you deserve to be heard, and you are worthy of the help you receive. You are more than the worst thing that has ever happened to you. Trying to heal from your worst experiences in life may leave you questioning yourself, your reality, and your feelings. Trauma can leave us with outdated beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. I am here to help you challenge and replace those beliefs in a safe, supportive environment where you are seen and heard.

"Strength doesn't come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming things you once thought you couldn't." (Rikki Rogers) I will be the therapist who works for you on any problem you bring to the session. I describe it this way because we work on what is important to you - your goals, hopes and dreams. The starting point is with you. Sometimes people can't even get in touch with that, but trust me, I can help you find those goals, hopes and dreams. I have been at points in my own life where I experienced hopelessness, but I know there is a way out.

You deserve to feel better - to enjoy this life. I provide a confidential space for active exploration, fostering alignment and wellness. Through self-reflection, we'll navigate intense feelings and symptoms, embracing new coping strategies. Imagine feeling lost, confused, unable to focus or remember where you were going, and staring at the mess of tangled thoughts from above wondering which thread to pull first. If you don’t have to imagine going through this, then you are in the right place. I would be happy to guide you as I have so many others away from intrusive and anxious thoughts towards peace and the pursuit of the life you want to live. Together we can mentally transplant you to a mindscape that allows you to grow; a safe place to untangle your thoughts, stretch your mind, and grow fearlessly.

Navigating ADHD, binge eating, LGBTQ+ troubles, and relationship issues often share a common thread: feeling out of touch with our desires and needs. ADHD can cause struggles with focus, completing tasks, or committing to projects. Binge eating offers fleeting relief, quickly replaced by guilt and shame. Being queer can impact self-esteem, and relationship issues add to the mix. We often long for consistent stability in our lives. Therapy can be transformative, offering the support needed to foster lasting growth and resilience. It provides a consistent space to reconnect with yourself and build a fulfilling life.

Our minds are incredible tools for experiencing life- and yet , the mind can so easily slip into anxiety and overthinking. Our memories can bring us joy and a sense of identity, but we can also get "stuck" in past patterns & hurts. Therapy is a unique type of relationship focused on your empowerment and growth. We'll work together to create awareness around those mental, emotional, and behavioral patterns. From here, we'll seek ways to implement positive, conscious changes, based on your personal values and desires.

If you are reading this right now, then that's good news, it means you are thinking about creating a healthier you! Whether you're working through a difficult time or simply feel like you've been stuck in a rut, therapy can be a great help! I’m grateful for the opportunity to support others and my approach to therapy is based in empathy, humor, acceptance, and transparency. I know how hard it can be to find a therapist that “clicks," so I would greatly appreciate the chance to hear your story and offer a fresh perspective! I have a wealth of experience in treating adolescents and adults.

If you are struggling right now, working together with a trained, caring, an objective person can be very helpful. You may not be sure how to choose a therapist you can work with and begin the process of feeling better. That makes sense because it is difficult to open up to a stranger about the challenges in life. You may have tried therapy before, and it did not help, or you did not "click" with the therapist you had chosen. If this sounds familiar to you, you are not alone.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
